Do you think that Cameron's comments (if correct) is sending the wrong message to women on prime time TV.

Do you think this is dangerous for young teenage girls to see this message.

Is it a dangerous subject for Cameron to comment on?

Does this help/hinder kids who suffer eating problems.

Is he the most responsible person to be telling others how they should look.

Is an average size not acceptable in MT?.

what are your thoughts. ?

When I read what Cameron Mackintosh said about Jodie I was so very angry.

His remarks are so out of order. There is absolutely nothing with Jodie's size. He is certainly sending out the wrong messages to young girls. It does not matter what size you are so long as you have the talent.

JODIE TO WIN - SHE HAS THE TALENT AND SHE LOOKS ABSOLUTELY PERFECT FOR THE PART OF NANCY.

I think I know what he's doing.

Criticise a woman's weight and the public will go into melt-down voting for her!
He actually WANTS her to win.

Coz any fool can see she's not fat.

It's horrible for any woman to hear derogatory comments about their weight. I hate all the stuff about having to be like a 6/8/10 to be considered 'hot/attractive'.

Jodie is a gorgeous looking woman and has a much more 'normal' body shape than someone like Sam. (I exclude Jessie from this because she doesn't look as slim as Sam)

The camera puts on 10 lbs so can you imagine just how slim Sam is in real life

I can imagine!
I see it every day with my friends. Sounds bitter doesn't it! Well being a size 12 and having your friends as skinny minnie's is a bit depressing! Anyhoo, rant over.

Not sure how much influence the media have.

I know my anorexia started as a health-drive and then became an obsession I couldn't control. Or rather, I had RIGID control! And then you can't stop because you'd be a failure!

Maybe I'm not representative but I think the role of the press can be overstated.

from wikipedia..

Is Jodie too OLD?

Nancy was corrupted at the age of six by Fagin, the lovable but villainous person who persuades downtrodden youths to do his bidding. Her exact age is not mentioned in the book , although she has evidently been a prostitute for 12 years, and is visibly in her twenties or thirties in film versions of the novel.

Is Jodie Too FAT?

She is described thus when she first appears "a couple of young ladies called to see the young gentlemen; one of whom was named Bet, and the other Nancy. They wore a good deal of hair, not very neatly turned up behind, and were rather untidy about the shoes and stockings. They were not exactly pretty, perhaps; but they had a great deal of color in their faces, and looked quite stout and hearty."

So that's no and no.

Nancy is supposed to be "quite stout and in her late twenties"

The only think Jodie has "done wrong" is fallen foul of a couple of body facists on this show...

Do you know what?

All that these comments do is make me want to vote for her more. If it was his aim to make people vote for Jessie or Samantha, I think it might backfire spectacularly. On the other hand, if his secret aim is to get people to vote for Jodie...

Oh honey, I hope you're doing okay now.

A friend of mine, who had a very severe case of it, died last year and I know for absolute certain that her illness had nothing to do with the media, or fashion magazines or anything like that. She'd had a very unhappy life and the eating disorder seemed to be a form of control for her. It takes an awful lot to get to the state that she was in and a few pictures in Vogue just aren't going to push someone to that place, as far as I can see.

I know, I'm beginning to suspect it's all bluff and double bluff. Cameron's not stupid. Maybe he's come over all Machivellian.

I read the article in the Mirror newspaper and it really does reinforce to me why they dont want Nancy in the role. There is nothing wrong with Jodie's weight at all. Better than being a stick insect. I am sure Jodie will convince Cameron eventually .

I'm posting in the dark here (didn't see the show) - but did CM's comment refer to Jodie's size? Did he support his comments in any way. i.e. why didn't he see her as Nancy?

I agree that negative comments often work in the opposite way to those intended and the so called experts should surely have realised that the public don't follow their dictate like silly sheep, but sometimes like to put them firmly in their place - or are their egos such that they assume everyone defers to their 'expertise.'

I admit that Jodie was never my favourite Nancy - but if (as seems likely) she wins, just one phrase springs to mind;

Oh - how the mighty have fallen! (and that includes CM and ALW).

It was a very sad waste of her life. I think she was feeling incredibly trapped and couldn't see another way out. It's so tragic, isn't it, that now that we don't have to worry about starvation, we can't seem to maintain a healthy relationship with food. Too much or too little.

All very off topic and all very sad.

It wasn't on the show, it was in the Daily Mirror. The article was about how MacIntosh claimed she was "too big" to play Nancy.

I'm fine, thanks.
It was over 20 years ago.

It did mean I got pregnant without knowing though! 24 weeks and I didn't know I was pregnant.

I just had a sort of breakdown and I couldn't do it any more.
I'm well tubby now and still prone to addictive behaviour!!!
But fat and jolly on my Prozac!

VERY off-topic. Sorry.

Right - but I'm getting a bit confused. I read somewhere that she collapsed into her mum's arms in tears when she went through - because of CM's comments; was this just tableau talk?

She did run towards her mother when she was "You could be Nancy".
I thought it was just relief.
But she couldn't have enjoyed what he said.

He named her as his "not Nancy", then she went through and went over to her mum with a few tears. I don't think he said anything about her weight then, but I think it was a combination of knowing that the producer isn't behind you, then getting into the final at roughly the same time, more than anything.
