OK I've a budget of £1000 to get;

TV
Speakers
AV Reciever

I've already got a DVD player and a 360 plus an iPod that I want to plug into the system, with my ibook occasionally getting plugged.

I've just had a quick look on richer sounds to see what they've got for the price and its pretty much the cheapest stuff they have.

TV - Panasonic TX37LZD80 749.95
Reciever - Sony STRDE400 99.95
Speakers - Yamaha NSP110 99.95

In terms of TV size anything between 37 and 42 is where I'm aiming, plasma or LCD (don't know which is best). The HD side of things will be 360 based to begin with (gaming and downloaded movies) I would like it to be 1080p for the future but I'm open to your views. I sit around 3m away when playing my xbox.

Don't really know much about this kind of stuff so any help appreciated.

Yeah, I fully intend to, but the internet is somewhat useless if you don't know what your looking for, or indeed if what you are looking for is crap in the first place.

I would re-balance the budget towards more 50/50 TV and audio, unless in parent's house/student type scenario. Full HD is great if all your sources are HD, but given your kit, there's little real HD content, and this stuff is still getting cheaper. You could get HD audio that way, and the xbox can do PC resolution on VGA and HDMI, so a 1366/768 TV is going to look fine with it. From 3m with a 37" you cannnot tell HD ready from fullHD unless you intend watching test patterns all night.

Cheers MAW, so a 720p set will do fine. Thats good to hear. I'll have a look into alternative sets for nearer to £500 then. And the same for the audio.

And recommendations within those prices?

In my experience Mission speakers have always had purer sound than any Japanese speakers. Richer Sounds used to do Mission 771 speakers for a fair price. However, for a bookshelf speaker the Mission 760i model was probably the best.

are you talking about a standard pair of speakers or a cinema surround set?

Only found one pair that were damaged on ebay. Pick up only in London also, not near to me. Oh well.
