ok... didnt know what to put in the heading but here is an email i just got from the BBC - if you want to be involved call them on the number below .

-------------------------------------------
Voters required for this Saturday's I'd Do Anything (31 May)

We would like to invite you to be part of our backup voters for I'd Do Anything on Saturday 31st May.

The BBC is required to arrange a group of independent people to watch the show in a room separate from the studio. These people will then watch the show on Television as it goes out live and take part in a paper vote on who is their favourite Nancy. The reason for this is that should we have any problems with the telephone voting system we would need to turn to this vote for our result.

Light snacks and drinks will be provided.

Those wishing to attend will need to be at Television Centre by 5.15pm. They will be met in reception and escorted to the private room where they will watch the show and released after the Results show at 9.15pm.

Please respond by 4pm today, Friday 30th May by calling the BBC Ticket Line on 0870 901 1227*.

Kind regards

Is this normal practice? I've never heard of anything like this before.

It does sound a bit random.
Would they really trust a few people to go with who is Nancy if the phones don't work.
I'd only go for it if I could meet them! hah

Well, I know they give the SCD audience voting cards in case the lines go down, but I don't know if they do it regularly for IDA.

I don't really get it. Are they saying that if the phone lines don't work properly, they're just going to take on a few random people's opinions and the winner will be cast by that?

Well, if it's anything like SCD, they'd usually ask just the audience, but because this is the final they've arranged for more people to come in to give a bigger sample.

It's unlikely the 'phones'll go down, but with it being live, they'd have nothing to do if they did, if you know what I mean?

So is there a real purpose for this?
Sounds a bit odd to me.
Or is someone trying to get us all excited and get us to ring the BBC and look silly?!

Would be better if you could watch it in the studio than being in a locked up room :-\

I live too far away, and the train'd be too expensive this short notice. If I lived closer I might, though.

I rang the BBC and asked then hung up just at the point where she asked me for my details. It seems to be for real though she did ask whether I'd got an email. When I said no, I'd just heard about it she said she'd take my details. I wonder if they're asking people who had requested tickets?

Do they normally do this?

Or is a case of?

The BBC is required by ALW & CM to arrange a group of easily swayed people to watch the show in a room separate from the studio, where some carefully edited footage with subliminal messages will be played on a continuous loop.

These people will then watch the show on Television as it goes out live, watch some more carefully edited footage with subliminal messages and then take part in a paper vote on who is their favourite Nancy.

The reason for this is that should ALW & CM have any problems in getting the Nancy they want, they would need to turn to this rigged vote for their result.

Light snacks, drinks and other inducements will be provided.

so, this is so they can change any result and use this as the reason?

i will wager, that anyone who gets the role will not do 8 shows a week to start, if ever.

Sounds suspiciously like a get out clause if the vote doesn't go the way they want to me...

You are right. The winner is only performing 4 times a week.
