I really miss Zoe Tyler on the panel!

I was listening to an interview with her in a podcast on The Stage website just now, and I was thinking how much I miss her on the panel.

She was my favourite judge on Joseph - she worked with the boys on their vocals, and then gave a very honest critique of the performances, taking into account acting as well. She was great, and could really pick up on the little vocal tricks and problems.

Why was she dropped? Barry's got better as the series has gone on, but I think the show really could have been massively improved with Zoe's insight, especially since I've completely gone off John Barrowman's judging style - it's all gone showy and sometimes a bit bitter. Denise tends to say the same things but in a much more measured way and without the need to point and repeat it three times.

Miss you Zoe

I agree. She could be hurtful, but you knew she knew what she was talking about and she did get very attached to the contestants, especially the Joe boys! We should definitely have a vocal coach on the panel, even if it's not Zoe.

the show definitely misses her, I don't no why she isn't there, we had four judges plus zoe last year, the show has definitely suffered without a vocal coach

If they ever do another of these shows, I hope that they rethink things

Vocals expert yes, Zoe no

Zoe could be really spiteful and destructive especially to the girls, and extra specially to Connie. And come on, she was the only person that picked Helen over Connie in the final!!!!! That was just bad judgement.

She didn't add much. Her comments were as random as JBs. She also sank in the problem facing all vocal coaches who end up judging as well - the main problem for an awful lot of people was that they were under rehearsed or given the wrong song or given unimaginative or dud arrangements or didn't have their problems sorted out. The vocal coach could hardly sit there and criticise their own failures and if they could see them they probably would have done betterin the first place. The vocal coach might have a role explaining why things went wrong but they probably wouldn't want to point out that the music or the sound or the song choice by ALW was naff and they probably shouldn't be too clear who they think is good either.

That one made some sense. Helena sang better although she didn't look as much like Julie.

Have to say, I'm not exactly Zoe's biggest fan, but I don't agree with this at all. All Zoe ever said to Connie was that while she began the show as the best singer, by the time the semi final came round, she'd been eclipsed, vocally, by some of the others (Siobhan and Helena to name names) which was absolutely true.

I still think that Connie's victory was fair enough. She was a more consistent performer than either of those two and a better all rounder than Siobhan.

As for supporting Helena in the final, I think they deliberately tried not to have the panel all back the same horse. From a vocal point of view, Zoe supporting Helena was not remarkable at all. She had made phenomenal progress and totally outsung Connie in the final.

Besides, Zoe seems to have a decided preference for the underdog. In the Joseph final, she was obviously supporting Keith. Even though they didn't ask the panel for their opinion that time around. I wonder why not?
