I have heard from some reliable sources that 3D television could be coming our way very soon...
There was supposed to be a model released this year but so far nothing has appeared but we are told that it is guaranteed to be sold everywhere by 2012. And the good thing is, is that you don't have to wear 3D glasses!!!
But be prepared to go on a spree, as it would cost you between £1,000 and £4000 (But, hey, isn't that what it would cost you for the top-of-the-range TV now?)

trouble is now- technologies are appearing too quickly.

HD TV hasn't even been fully adopted by people + all the consumers that have recently purchased a TV will be pissed that once again a 'better' technology is available.

HD hasn't kicked off and i doubt 3D will either especially with times becoming tight money wise.

What matters is the quality of programming

you can make 3d by wearing one lens in a pair of glasses that allows half the light through compared to the other lens, only works when the scene is panning though but it really works.
If you dont believe me try it

Also, it would only create even more confusion - what with the digital switchover and all....There still some issues with people not understanding the way it works and the difference between HD and HD Ready.

Ref the OP, I went to an exhibition recently and saw a demo of a 3D plasma TV where you did not need to wear any special glasses. It was a technology demonstrator with some simple rotating CG shapes. Even when veiwed from quite a wide angle the same appeared to break out from the front of the TV. Very impressive although of course it is a long way from full 3D TV. Does go to show you don't need glasses!

HI,

The movie-makers have really got the bug for 3D-TV and IMAX.

What happens in movies, rich people/movie-lovers eventually want for there own homes, if nothing else, to show off to the Jone's.

A few companies are working on this, it's not fundamentally unique technology, but one company that's working on broadly licensing it software and quite simple hardware implementation is called DDD, it's been developing its tech/distribution for quite some years.

All TV's sold currently are already HDTV sets, ALL programing will be HDTV within 6 years, If speilberg, Lucas, cameron et al get their way, then they'll be more 3D content to aspire to have, then note that the whole distribution-chain is becoming digital, which means that 3D isn't going to be the same logistical/manufacturing task that it would be with all-35mm film.......finally, it might be as a laser-disk-like (or teletext, nicam) bells and whistle, but costing so little to add as a marketing-tool, with a bundled set of Blu-ray disks and web-access for fresh content, and I expect standardised-feature well in time for 2020 (subject to bl-ray-like content and marketing + hardware).

It will be in 2020 that the move to UHTV will begin it's transitional phase using "MPEG 10 Dynamic Unified-MIMO" CoDecTra.

Yours kindly,

MN

ISTR that you don't need special glasses if you are able to voluntarily cross your eyes for long periods of time.

Unfortunately most people get a headache after a few minutes...
