What can Cameron do?

If the public choose Jodie (who he appears to rate as least good for the role as far as he's concerned) does Cameron have to honour the agreement and employ her as the full-time Nancy? For how long? And can he choose to have more than one Nancy so that the role is shared?

There's only one thing he can do - and that's fix it. Jodie is clear favourite to win with the public, but he's already said (unwisely imho) that he's not keen - Jessie is the next favourite but him and ALW have gone off her too I think. They both want Sam - and if she wins, I think it will be a fix for sure, I really do. I do not believe she's the public's favourite - and at the end of the day, CM and ALW want to protect their investment (i.e. the show). So that's how I'll be reading the results anyway - call me a cynic if you like!

You're a cynic! But so am i
Too much has happened throughout the whole series for me to watch tonight and not think that AWL and CM are upto something

I've never read what type of contract is up as the prize. I don't think it was an issue on HDYSAPLM or ADWD. But after last week i do get the impression they don't want Jodie

If Jodie wins and she gets to play Nancy (i would guess on opening night) she has been given her prize whether she be there on a long or short contract or if she is sharing the role

Its in the Sun newspaper today, that he wanted ALW to save Rachel over Sam! And they had a huge arguement over it!!
Cam wanted Rachel to win!

He wanted both Rachel and Sam in the Final. I get the impression that Cameron would be happy with a Jessie win too.

According to the website for the show (Oliver, not IDA) the winning Nancy is only definitely contracted for 4 shows a week, this is what it says:

"Sickness and holiday permitting, we have decided that the winning Nancy is scheduled to perform on Monday and Tuesday evenings, Wednesday matinees and Friday evenings. Until the show opens in December we cannot make a final decision on any additional performances."

Well now, isn't that interesting? Considering all series they've been going on about whether or not the contestants are ready to do 8 shows a week?! Isn't that how it ended up with the Sound of Music with Connie and Aoife sharing the role? Hmmm...be interesting to see who will be their choice if the public don't pick the Nancy ALW and CM would like in the production....

One thing he can do is rub his fingers as the bookings are made - all this free publicity is a godsend!!!!!!!!!!!

There is a lot he can do. Already the Nancy roll has been reducd to a part time roll & the winner will only do 4 performances a week. I beikive as well that Nancy in this production will play a much smaller role.

Yes, I agree. Methinks they have well and truly botched this series.

I thought there must be some sort of "let-out clause" just in case the winner is not one that Cameron wanted!

Nah becasue some people will turn up at the show purely to see the winning Nancy. It would be proffesional suicide if he got someone else.

CM will be happy with every Nancy in the final. The people that he didn't want were pushed out at an earlier date, or not even selected in the final 12. I highly doubt that CM would risk having someone in the final who he would never give the role to.

And if he did, he could say "The winner has signed a contract for three months only, due to potential vocal strain, after that we will see where we are."

Yep, any half decent PR person will already getting the stories ready, just in case Jodie wins.

Vocal strain is quite likely, as is some form of personal crisis or if they are really lucky pregancy.

(...runs for cover).

I am sure "Onwards&Upwards" is already preparing his script.

The importance of the TV show is the Publicity. The actual West End Show is not really dependent on the voting public the vast majority who will not go to it.

The very real risk is however if whover they cast for Nancy is not up to it. I think with the three we have that is a very real risk as none are anywhere near up to the standard.

As for replacing the Nance that can easilly be done. In fact they would have to do it or risk the show folding.

Like any contract it can be broken by either side. In affect whoever gets the role will be on at least a three month trial during which time either party can terminate the contract.

If Cameron wanted someone else, or wanted Racel and Sam in the final then why wasn't he in Andrew's chair each week?!!!!

I don't know if this has been posted today from the online Sun!!!!!

Two unlikely candidates for a brawl, musical impresarios Andrew Lloyd Webber and Cameron Mackintosh, had a massive barney behind the scenes of the BBC1 show.

The pair squared up for a showdown last Saturday night after Rachel Tucker, got the boot, meaning she misses out on tonight’s final.

Cameron — who is stumping up the cash to produce Oliver! in the West End — was desperate for Rachel, 26, to win so she could be his Nancy. But ALW was forced to kick her out when she came up short against Samantha Barks, 17, in last week’s sing-off.

Cameron, 61 — one of the judges on the show — was fuming and let rip at long-time cohort Andrew.

The pair first teamed up in 1981 to produce worldwide smash hit Cats. And the claws were most definitely out as a source said: “It was a terrible row. They were screaming at each other.” Andrew, 60, told us: “The fact is Cameron wanted Rachel to stay.

“He wanted Rachel and Samantha in the final from the beginning of the series. Rachel did a fantastic performance but I had to face up to the fact that she wouldn’t have gone any further. What I may think professionally is sometimes different to what the public want. I saved Rachel three times and she still ended up in the bottom two.”

Speaking about the argument, Andrew added: “It’s all sorted out now. Things just got rather heated. I’m aware that I have to do the best for somebody else and it’s difficult.”

I'm also a bit wary of the disclaimer at the bottom of the voting page on the BBC IDA website, stating:

"In the event of any problems with the telephone vote the BBC will use its contingency plans , which may involve the use of a back up independent jury."

hmmm....call me a cynic, but looks like they're covering their backs already, should they need to use said "independent jury".
