What is Connie doing nowerdays?

Everyone hailed her as a big thing - but since she left SoM she's had a cancelled tour and been hosting the lottery from what I've seen.

Just goes to show, best predictions can be very wrong at this stage.

Bit of a cheat on the public if she isnt allowed to do the 8 shows. Really hope she ends up doing so. I expect some people will be booking tickets in the hope of seeing her in the role.

One trick pony....best in show for Maria no question but not a particularly great singer or much in the way of looks to propel her much further.

I have to reiterate, it's a tough business....I know....I'm in it....and glamour is pretty damn important as well as the all singing all dancing.

Same with me. I would only be able to book for one of the Saturday shows and would only go if Jodie was playing Nancy.

You're so right, the theatre and dance world is tough, and the comments Jodie got on Saturday from Cameron and Andrew - "Jessie is Nancy" etc etc etc is small fry to what she can expect in the months to follow.

Performers & competitive dancers need to develop very thick skins, or risk having a nervous breakdown in less than a month!!!

Apart from most Saturdays are fully booked for the first couple of months, or at least getting near to be fully booked.

Connie was last heard of (by me anyway) doing something for ITV. May be a (hopefully successful) bid to get away from Maria with something very different .

The public seem to me to pick winners who look most like the traditional version and have the least unusual things about them to put anyone off. That seems to be a problem as Connie is Julie Andrews and now Jodie is your Eastend buxom barmaid via Blackpool. They look like those roles but its far from clear what else they could be.

Some of the other contestants seem to have been using and developing their range far more. Helena has been in gypsy, skipped along the yellow brick road as Dorothy and is touring as Nellie in South Pacific perfroming her second role in a US accent. Abi has been a medieval gal in Blondel, a geeky New York jewish girl in Fame and is now acting as an Austrian in Betwixt.

It may be that the winners will break free of the big role or it may be that the public never vote for the best actresses to win because acting a role differently is never going to please everyone who expects the expected on TV.

she won't. i thought someone else had the other shows? oh, maybe it is just the understudy who is chosen. if that ever did happen and Jessie did get 4 shows or what have you, they may as well have said "I'd Do Anything-Our Search for 2 stars of Nancy in Oliver" I mean what is the point of a final to pick one.

Well I think it's true to say that it's gonna be hard for both Connie and Lee to move away from the roles that they were both best known for.

But you have to judge them on what they do after Maria/Joseph and it is too soon at the moment to do that. Connie has her ITV drama lined up ... Lee is still in Joseph until 2009 ....

Jodie is only signed up for a 6 month stint!!!

Well it was on the bottom of Page 3 of the News of The World, so not sure how believable it is!!!

I would have thought this was to be expected - and no reflection on Jodie's talent - simply a precaution.

If Jodie proves to be a knockout and puts bums on seats, then no doubt her contract will be extended - if not (and I hope she is a success), it gives CM the discretion not to renew.

I believe the same contract was given to Lee/Connie and then extended.

I wouldn't call News of the World reliable but considering that it's now 4 show a week and now just 6 months - CM doens't seem to be to pleased with the public vote. Please, this is not a dig at Jodie but rather I think ALW or CM wouldn't be back again for MT castings after this.

I believe an initial 6 month contract is quite normal and is what happened for Connie and Lee.

This confirms that 6 shows per week are now confirmed demonstrating the confidence they have in Jodie.

"As performances do not commence until 12 December, there is not a fully confirmed performance schedule for Nancy and Oliver. Due to licensing issues, it will not be decided which Oliver will perform until shortly before the performance starts. Sickness and holiday permitting, Jodie Prenger is scheduled to perform on Monday and Tuesday evenings, Wednesday matinees and Friday evenings and both Saturday Shows. Until the show opens in December, the Producers cannot make a final decision on any additonal performances."

That's good for her. But 4 or 6 shows really doesn't add up to what they were banging on to the girls every week. In fact, they even used it as a criticism - "you can't do eight show a week, blah,blah blah" when really it's just 4/6 shows.

The official Oliver website is now saying that Jodie will do 6 performances per week, including both Saturday shows.
