I have been on a few threads today where people have been discussing giving out contestants own Facebook, Bebo or MySpace profiles, but I am appalled that people would ever consider it!

Their profiles are private with friends/family on. Surely if people want to pass on any messages, they could use the BGT ITV website, or even on here.

It galls me that in this day and age, people think that someone they see on TV is somehow owned by us all. Magazines are already slagged off for intruding into celebrities' lives, but these contestants should be left alone on their personal sites.

It's not just the person concerned that people would want to be 'friends' with or message, you know that some people would take it just one stage further and bombard that person's friends/family to get through to them just because they have seen them on TV once or twice.

Honestly, it's shocking

Not to be funny but if they wanted to seach for a contestant then they can just type the name in the search box..You don't have to be linked to a page if someone wants to find a celeb they will.

The internet is a public place - if you don't want your personal details to appear elsewhere then don't put them on!

Very simple. Facebook type sites are renowned for spreading your details far and wide. Oh and Ebay.

Sorry.

I was going to post Kate's MySpace since people were asking. I won't, and i'm shocked at myself for actually considering giving out some-ones private profile!

But with someone like Andrew Johnston, there would be loads of people with the same name, so you might not necessarily trawl through all of the names to find him, plus not everyone puts their own pic on their profile. If you saw a question mark on Facebook, you wouldn't know it was him, but all Facebook profiles have a unique ID number, which is what might be given out to help identify the right one.

Facebook actually doesn't let you view profiles until your friends with the person, so no-one has to worry about people viewing your Facebook or leaving you comments there.

It they have a publicly accessible profile (as is the case with a lot of myspace profile) then what's the problem. If these people are stupid enough to allow their profile to be open to the public with the full knowledge that they are going to appear in a reality TV programme it's their problem!

Harsh but true!

PS If anyone has the phone numbers of anyone of the girls in Escala's then feel free to send them to me.

I guess I'm just old school when it comes to privacy!

If I became 'famous', I know I wouldn't want my Facebook profile bombarding. And just because I became 'famous' does that mean I no longer have the right to privacy on Facebook? Of course not!!

So giving a link to information that someone has given about themselves on the internet is wrong? surely if they dont want their details out and about then it isnt really a good idea to put it on the net in the first place?

Facebook,Bebo & My Space are not private. Anyone that thinks they are is very confused. In know way are they secure private sites. Anyone can access the sites.

The OP is just respecting privacy. We don't know who wants strangers messaging them, and who doesn't.

That's right with MySpace, and with Facebook you can join a group, or become a 'fan' on a specific page, but I think these contestants should be allowed to have their own profile private. As much as I love Charlotte Church or members of Take That, I'd feel like an imposter on their 'friends' list amongst real friends and family.

But they should expect that it they are going to create an open internet profile then appear on a reality tv show.

Maybe they don't use their Bebo/MySpace/Facebook account much and probably spent most of their time rehearsing or something.

Thank you Latios, I am just taking a moral stand I guess! A few of the contestants are only young, and in these days of paranoia of paedophiles, I guess I'm just joining the paranoia brigade.

If my child was on the show, I'd hate to have to worry that everytime they logged onto their Facebook/Bebo etc that I'd feel like vetting every message.
