Interaction between Jessie and Gwion was excellent

Watching the programme, we felt that from the start (of last night's programme, not the entire series) it was set up for Jessie to win.

When they said they were doing duets DH said that he bet that Jessie would get Gwion (cutest Oliver). I agreed and said that they would probably get something like Truly Scrumptious as well as that would go down really well.

And surprise surprise, she did, and they did!

I am a strong Jodie supporter but I did find it odd that Sam and Harry had to sing a song that was definitely not meant to be a duet and is more 'adult' than the other two choices were. Both Harry and Sam did their best but they had little chance to connect on such a song.

Any suggestions as to what would have been another more suitable duet for any of them?

sorry, am I alone in thinking that Gwiom really isn't cute? He really spoilt the duet for me

Maybe something from Sound of Music, "My favourite things" possibly.

I did think it was strange that Jodie and Jessie got children-related songs and Samantha got that random one

Well, they should have been - CM/ALW's golden boy and girl performing the best material that was given to any of the contestants, they could hardly lose could they

How could Samantha and Laurence even hope to compare with 'Singing in the Rain' - its a solo number for a start so to make it into a duet was always going to be rubbish. It reminds me of when Sarah was given Mr Bojangles a few weeks back to make sure she couldn't give a performance that stood any chance of winning votes.

It was set up for them and poor Sam was scuppered. That said , I preferred Jodie and Laurence.

It was Sam and Harry, but yes, I completely agree - it was reminiscent of Sarah's being given Mr Bojangles. I do think Jessie got the best deal re: the duets - the most popular/distinct Oliver, the best song for showing motherliness, the most interactive & intimate choreography but not too demanding (imagine Jessie trying to pull off Sam's routine!).

I think Harry and Sam's performance was very good individually, but it looked like they were doing their own thing, and the song is at fault imo.

I thought it was an odd choice of song for Sam and Harry I don't know how they were suppose to really interact with it.

The choreography with little Gwion and Jessie was a voting pull with the piggy back ride and all, very sweet but to be honest I think Jodie and Sam could have pulled it off just as well - meaning the song really helped Gwion and Jessie.

I agree. I did feel sorry for Sam and Harry with that duet. A song like Not While I'm Around would have been preferable.

Sam and Harry could have done a duet from something like Mary Poppins- that would have been much better. A Spoonful of Sugar would have been fun.

Yeah, that would have been much better - and Harry would have particularly excelled at the song, considering his past experience.

Lawrence sounded a little off tune at times too

Enchanting was my word for it

I think Jessie having 3 younger siblings was what made this shine.
I could see her giving them 'colley buckies' (sp?) too!
Gwion's eyes never left her face.

He probably would have, but that might have been sort of unfair aswell, since Harry is so familiar with all the Mary Poppins material.
So maybe they should have given a MP song to one of the other pairs, so Sam and Harry could get their song. If I'm still making any sense...

Perfect sense. Can't see him pulling off Truly Scrumptious - he seems a bit too old, and I wouldn't fancy trying to give either him or Laurence a piggy back - but he could have had Getting to Know You (or something better) and Laurence and Jodie could have had Practically Perfect, Jolly Holiday, etc. Plenty of more suitable songs - no excuse for Singing in the Rain.
