Wahey! Good choice Jak, love the old ska and 2-tone meself........

But my favourite kind of music is jangly guitar arpeggio stuff.......The Byrds, vintage REM, Cosmic Rough Riders, Astrid, I'm a sucker for that kind of thing.........

jazz-blues-soul

music with feeling - joy, compassion, humility, boastfulness, pathos, empathy - the whole gamut of real human feeling.

how can somebody not be touched to hear lines like "If I didn't have bad luck, I wouldn't have no luck at all" or "I'm just a soul whose intentions are good, O Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood" or "when a man, loves a woman - he can't keep his mind on nothing else"

the music of the ordinary man or woman - raw emotion with an edge of humour - what most of us need to get through the night.

In every genre there is good and bad and mostly indifferent.

If I categorised by CD collection I guess it would come out in the following order:

1. Classical
2. Prog
3. Indie

... which evolved into rocksteady during the scorching hot (climatically and socially) Jamaican summer of 1966!

Heavy-metal (excluding it's more ridiculous sub-genres) and hard-rock are my favourites. Nothing beats a good riff in my opinion - when you hear a really fantastic, crunching guitar riff it's just so energising. Love it!
