I'm undecided.
On the one hand, it should. Since someone who's young and talented has many more years to improve and get even better. Also, the older performers have more years behind them and therefore might be expected to be more improved already.
On the other hand, it's slightly unfair. Since if you take two equally talented acts, one young and one old, the younger act will arguably get a bit more support, since people assume that as they get older they'll get better and better. Whereas older acts may still be very adaptable and malleable and able to improve.
Perhaps it might be better to have a separate competition for people of a certain age, since that way they are compared to people of their same age group, and that 'potential for improvement' factor is equally taken into account.
