I think what CM was looking for in his Nancy...was someone more true to the original Dickens character......I get the feeling that the direction of this production is going to be more naturalistic, stripped back.....Obviously I'm just reading between the lines here..... but it makes sense when I look at the Olivers they've chosen.

So the "twist" if any is going back to the orginal Dickens ... the rawness & darkness of that role.

When CM used the world "traditional" to describe Jodie ..I guess he meant she was the more clean cut and obvious MT version. It chimes with the gloss V grit criticism last week.....and I can see his point....although I think Jodie is great.”

If Cam was after a certain type...he should have been abit more selective in the auditioning......he wasnt...they gave us both raw and traditional.......public went with traditional......we didnt supply the girls they did

May I quote Dickens please....

"A couple of young ladies called to see the young gentlemen; one of whom was named Bet, and the other Nancy. They wore a good deal of hair, not very neatly turned up behind, and were rather untidy about the shoes and stockings. They were not exactly pretty, perhaps; but they had a great deal of color in their faces, and looked quite stout and hearty."

Does that sound like Jessie??????????

Actually yes! I have always been pretty neutral about who should win...but tonght for me Jessie really nailed it and I could totally see Nancy in her....I was quite unexpectely blown away and actually really moved by her performance of ALAHNM.

But that's not to say Jodie will not be great in the role too....just very different.

You are, of course, entitled to your opinion

My worry about Jodie is that she makes it sounds very easy. I loved her ALAHNM, but I love the way Nancy's sense of desperation is reflected in a lot of the girls vocals. ALAHNM is such an easy sing for Jodie, and it sounds so bizzare to say I want her to 'not sing it well', but I'd like Nancy's helplessness and tragedy to be reflected in the vocal a little more I think.

And the noise she makes before the 'neeeeeeds' (more like a "he, aaa-neeeeds meee!!") bugs me, lol!

But still a good winner!

I think that's what CM was getting at last week - when he said he wanted to hear the gin in her voice....Well happily for him they've now got 6 months of rehearsal time to work on it

It's not that, mupp -- it's just that ALW stated at the kickoff that he and CM were looking for a more edgy Nancy.

Somehow, this got lost in the wash as, among other things, they lost one of the best candidates for "different" as early as week 2.

Apart from that, I'm all for traditional. All together, now: 'As I was going to Strawberry Faaaiiiiir...'
