Connie singing ALAHNM on Maria for comparison

What do you think of Connie singing ALAHNM?
Think Jodie's (2nd) version is better.

I never really rated Connie as an actress. She and Rachel must have gone to the same drama school.

Much preferred Jodie and Jessie's efforts (and quite a few of the others girls').

Thanks for posting that. It was great to be reminded why I wanted Connie to win!

Of course, this was a 'Connie-singing-like-Julie-Andrews-to-win-Maria' version of the song, so no Cockney accent, no grittiness, no tart with a heart. But I loved it - there was more light and shade and she built up very cleverly to the money notes. It was a winner then and it's still a winner, although had anybody sung it like that in this contest, it would REALLY have redefined the role! Nancy as a Singing Nun? I don't think so!

all i remember was her crying about the song choice which struck me as odd and made me roll my eyes. a dream song.

Yes that annoyed me too! Ungrateful little so and so...

It was a very good performance though

I thought she was good. But she didn't fit with the song.
Prefered Jessie's version. Why didn't they both do the whole song?

especially for someone i don't think hit one duff note, regardless of song, which goes to show song choice, no matter.

She said on the show that she was upset about the song choice because she didn't think she was "vocally up to it", not because she didn't like the song. She wasn't being ungrateful--she was worried she wouldn't be able to sing it as well as she'd like to. I think she more than proved herself--I loved that performance, and I thought it was the highlight of the Maria show.

oh, I am aware of the reason. not a good one in my opinion. that is what challenges are and you can't keep saying "I'm sick of being a bridesmaid" and then are worried or afraid of singing a certain song...especially an MT classic? that makes no sense to me.

Lots of people probably go through that same thing--anguish over having to perform a difficult song in a competition or other type of performance, but they don't have cameras recording their preparations. Connie didn't just sit there whining and complaining--she cried at first because she wasn't sure if she could do the song justice, but she didn't stop there. She worked hard to get it right, and then went out there and sang it--and nailed the thing. I say good for her!

Ah, thanks for this link

It was a totally different performance from the Nancy ones. This was the song performed as Connie rather than the performance as Nancy which all the Nancy's did.

One interesting point - all the Nancy's bar Jodie sang the last words of the song with their mouths wide open (as I remember anyway). Yet Jodie and Connie both managed to sing it with normal mouths. Nothing major, just an interesting coincidence

Gosh I'd forgotten how strong her voice was in HDYSAPLM, much stronger than it seems to be since she damaged her voice.
