DVD recorder recommendations? Where to buy?
My trusty old Lite-on DVD recorder has just died after 4 years of service.
Steering clear of Comet PC World etc I cant think what websites are worth visiting to purchase another DVD recorder! Of course technology has moved on now - so what new features should I look for? Thanks PS this is the first thing ive found http://www.microdirect.co.uk/(18990)...-Playback.aspx The reviews don't seem upto much for it though! |

try bigpockets.
For just a few £ more you can get one with a hard drive too. So whilst quality may not be as good you will need to use the DVD function far less. Might just bode well for longevity. Not to mention that I think most have editing functions so that you get a very neat DVD recording. (have you cleaned the laser heads of the old one?) |

I daren't open it up! It still plays back ok but only records for 30 seconds before freezing the machine up and the disk is chucked in the bin!
I need a new one but just dont really know what to go for! Also mostly I use it for playing stuff back from my V++ box so the hardrive feature isnt that important really! I usualy end up re-editing the whole thing on my pc then neatly burning em back to DVD with all singing and dancing menus! Lee |

do you know the model nmber of the liteon?
you may well be able to just spend £18 on a new drive, attach it to the ide cable, and revitalise the player. These things are fairly simple to take the lid off. The liteons are more adaptable than some recorders where you can't simply switch the drive round. The question should be up in the personal video recorder section really as there is more information up there on liteons. here is some more liteon links http://club.cdfreaks.com/f102/ |

Thanks for the advice. update: looks like any old liteon dvd rewriter will work in this unit. there are guides on this forum http://club.cdfreaks.com/f102/liteon...-drive-204102/ and plenty of information replacement drives list. http://club.cdfreaks.com/f102/replac...orders-207698/ |

I've got the Sony HXD860 and it's brilliant. Only thing I would have liked is twin tuner though, which it hasn't got. I'd recommend getting one with a hard disk and freeview too.
As for where to buy eBay or www.froogle.google.co.uk are good for finding out an idea of prices |

Panasonic or Pioneer will serve you well - preferably with a hard disc drive built in |
