This may sound mean but it's not, it's just as big fan of movies and musicals and thinking the right person for the part, so ask yourself if someone should do what it takes to get into charchter, now when Christan Bale starred in The Machinist he lost loads of weight for the role because the role called for it. Nancy is a street urchin who probably didn't get to eat very well and therefore quite thin I would imagine so Jodie needs to get a big thinner to really throw herself into the charchter

Umm... the diet of the Victorian poor was very fat-laden. They might not have got great nutrition, but putting on weight was common. The buxon barmaid was also regularly seen.

Jodie is the real deal.

Thank you for justifying why Jodie should not gain weight. She has lost enough as it is...

I was thinking that too. Poorer people tended to eat more unhealthy, cheaper, stodgy food. That can probably still apply in this day and age.

Nancy to me was a street walker who slept around for money had abandonment issues, ate the worse kind of stodgy and drank gin and beer. She stayed because this life was the only one she knew and the boys the only family she would ever have. She was not a healthy fresh faced thin girl. But a tired worn out hag like character who had stolen all her life. Im sure Jodie will beable to sell that no problem

Absolutely correct!!

She also needed to have a voice that BELTED out her emotions...

Jodie is 100% the right choice....always was...

The effects of food poverty are actually very different now than they were previously : Just in case anyone is interested

Food poverty: Then and now
Victorian food poverty
Lack of food and under nutrition
Basic foodstuffs unaffordable
People suffering food poverty often underweight and stunted

Modern day food poverty
Overabundance of processed food
Lack of balance in the diet
Poor access to available food
People suffering from obesity and diabetes

It's a well known fact that street urchins were thin, my sister who dosen't watch the show walked in when Jodie won and said "She's to fat to play a street urchin"

Oh for the love of ........let it go!!!

You expect Jodie to 'starve herself' to get into character? How will it help if she faints from hunger on stage?

We know that Jodie is incredibly fit - no matter what anyone says.

All she needs to do to get into character is act - and as she proved by WINNING last night. Easy peasy!

Lucky she's not a street urchin then. She's a street walker in times where being a larger lady was considered more beautiful. I think you should tell your sister she needs to get an education.

P.s. What the hell is charchter

Best piece of advice I've ever seen on this forum.
I want to know how can Lady_raven claim to be a good actress without knowing the importance of doing period research. It's the first thing you should learn research a part before commenting on it. I'm a mediocre actor and even I know that one.

Because it's a known fact, and even if get past the weight thing, there's the age thing, Nancy was only 17, how old does everyone think Jodie looks if you all think she can pass for 17 then I'll shut up, a know there are a lot of actors about who can play a lot younger, Eric Millegan from Bones for example is 34 playing a 24 year old but then he looks about 18 but with Jodie I don't think she looks young enough, I know a lot of people on here like her but when it comes to the serious critics they will all agree with with ALW, BH and CM.

You were talking about her weight now you've lost that argument you go on about her age. Pathetic.

Ok maybe I'm going over the top, I just loved Jessie and she was born to play Nancy and I'm getting sick to death of the wrong person winning cause of the sympathy vote like last year's x factor final.

Andrew did say that Jodie was more like the film Nancy but Jessie was more like the Dickens one and they wanted someone like the Dickens one, not the film one

Yes you are going over the top and it's absolute nonsense to say Jodie got the sympathy vote. Grow up and move along

No he didn't your putting things together in your head now. If anything Jessie was more like the film Nancy, and Jodie is more like a Street walker/barmaid you would of found in those days. As said before read the book the description of Nancy fitted Jodie to a tee.

Andrew said Jessie was more like the Dickens role, Im sure people will back me up on that
