Ha, "fookin chuffed" might be preferable, yr right.

It only implies that if you give the saying a literal interpretation. Consider the context and the surrounding circumstances and give the saying a more purposive interpretation and I think it is clear what is meant by the phrase when used by RTV contestants and it is not that they could not give a toss about anything else. It is not an ideal phrase but the meaning is not hard to pick up. Anyway, it is late in the morning and we are arguing the toss over stuff like this, so agree to disagree, yeah.

Sure they want to win, why even ask them? It's nonsense. Let their performances do the talking. If you have to ask them anything, ask them about themselves or their performance rather than "What would it mean to you to win?"

Anyways, I'm surprised it doesn't rankle with anyone else, but there ya go.

I think that's what made Friday night's show so bad. It wasn't about selling their talent but, who had it the toughest. It was overkill. The problem is that all these talent shows want to have a "sob story" and the audience are fed up with it. I for one am fed up with all the crying. As much as I liked little George tonight, I got the distinct impression that he was trying to make himself cry, not because he was over-whelmed by it all but because that's now what is expected or our winners.

Mind you I shouldn't be too hard on the lad as winning the show did "save his life"!

OMG, yeah, more exaggeration! I too thought he was trying to make himself cry. Still like him though.

Also, there have been previous newspaper reports about shows like the X Factor and how they actively seek people who have a story, especially a personal tragedy, and encourage them to share it with the viewers. Andrew and the bullies. Madonna whatever her name and her family back home. Etc etc.

How can this be a dream that somebody has been working towards for years?
It only started last year.

Yet you get acts coming out with a load of guff saying that they've been working towards this all their lives.
