She mentions that he looks a lot younger, she's no longer with him but has a book (presumably his) detailing everything they'd done, and she has a his sonic screwdriver. Could she be the doctor's companion in the far future when he's old and grey, and did he die when with her?

I don't think River Song could be the Doctor's last companion (as in he dies whilst with her), because she expected to meet a version of the doctor that knew who she was. Not recognising the Doctor until he mentioned he was a time traveller suggests that she thought he may have regenerated since she last saw him. I think she could be very much like a Sarah Jane character in the future. The doctor doesn't have to be dead to give River Song a sonic screwdriver, remember he left Sarah Jane her sonic lipstick.

What has suddenly occurred to me though is that she checked what he had already done. This suggests that River Song goes on adventures with many different regenerations of the doctor. Though she can't have met him too long after Donna to know who she is. Unless, of course, Donna does something so infamous that she is remembered for a long time afterwards.

I thought the cover of River's book looked like the outside of the Tardis.

No she is just an archaeologist who can time travel and has met the doctor on several occasions and has had a romantic relationship with him.

An obvious indication that the TARDIS is in fact the Rani.

Sorry, I don't know how to do spoilers.

I don't think she can time travel, rather he keeps reappearing in her life, but always out of order. I couldn't help but think of the book The Time Traveller's Wife.

You know that book that river song had, isn't that the same book the doctor was writing in in Human nature and the family of blood??

I was wondering about her implying that they're "together" for quite a while (they have rules, plans and a diary of events) when we meet Riversong. I wonder if (as DT may well leave before we again see her ) She can see through the regenerations so she doesn't see him as we do (as DT, previously as CE etc etc) and see's his "true form" coz is it not true that the Doctor CHOSE to look human, presumably meaning Time Lords have a different form?? Maybe I'm completely confused and over analysing.

Course, it could also be our clue that DT is staying through Series 5 and Riversong will be his companion!!!

I don't think the fact she knows a future 'him' implies DT is leaving. It is inevitable that the Doctor will have to be recast at some point, but not necessarily any time soon. The show is about time travel, so we don't necessarily need to ever see Riversong with any future version of the Doctor. Afterall, Moffat wrote about 'timey wimey, wibbly wobbly' stuff in Blink.

Perhaps Riversong sees the 10th Doctor regenerate into 11th, who knows.

Its an interesting thought that the Doctor 'chose' human form because all the other Time Lords we have seen have been in human form. It has been elluded to that they can choose other forms (Romana's dodgy regeneration scene), but then again the 9th Doctor implied to Rose it is a random event. I think regeneration has no rules, it all depends on particular writers. The Doctor has also seemed surprised by his regeneration (Robot, Rose).

I think it would be interesting to seem a version of the Doctor with an alien appearance, but only for a on off story. I think DW works so well because he is essentially a version of us the audience. It allows us to relate to him. Most alien beings work best if they are similar to us in appearance (Spock for example).

She knows about Donna and her fate because it is all in the diary that is how she knows about events that have and will happen to the doctor bcoz she has read it in his diary.......

I didn't mean I thought it meant DT was leaving. When I saw the ep and she was saying about the Doctors future my original thought was - yay, more DT then the thought came about that maybe she somehow sees through his appearance so instead of seeing the Doctor as we see him, she sees him as one time lord. Am I making any sense? Sorry just a random thought I had.
Dunno if I'd wanna see an alien doctor - I pride myself in my ability to have a crush on most Doctors (early Doctors and Colin Baker aside) and think it would be too 51st Century if I found myself with a crush on an alien!!

I thought she did recognise him straight away with her greeting of "Hello sweetie". I must've misunderstood.

I think perhaps River Song can see the Doctor like timelords see each other - remember they can chase faces between seeing each other yet they still know who they are, on site so perhaps River Song can see him this way.

no, it is not. if it was the Doctor's diary, it would have everything from Hartnell, and the very beginning of it still wasn't early enough.

I think either I'm right, or Moffat's trying to tell fans that the doctor goes past his 13th regeneration, so that a future writer can't have the doctor die after his 13th regenration.

Maybe she is his last companion and he does die, but she sees him again when he visits that era in the past so keeps his/her diary to find out how far back the doctor's from at that point.

*confused*

Sounds like a future companion of the 11th Doctor in the 2010 season, and perhaps the 'Doctorless' story this series will actually have RiverSong with the 11th Doctor.

Interestingly enough the programme info on Sky for Dr Who confidential next week refers to her as a 'time travelling archaeologist'.
