Annoyingly I have just gone to the freezer for some dinner and pulled out a Tesco Finest Thai Green Curry only to find that there was no defrosting instructions as it wasnt "suitable for home freezing!"

Ive looke through the rest of the freezer and ive got loads of things in there that arent suitable!

Can anyone tell me what determines whether something is or isnt? Also I wouldnt have bought half of the food knowing I couldnt freeze it! Should the supermarkets label it a bit more clearly rather than the small line of text reading "not suitable for home freezing"

Im still gonna defrost this Green Thai Chicken Curry and see what happens!

Maybe it was previously frozen, defrosted, cooked then sold to be reheated.

You're not supposed to re-freeze things. I did it with some pork mince and I'm still here though.

maybe it wouldnt be as good as stuff thats meant to be frozen when its been recooked.

ive frozen stuff that souldnt be and im still here too. if its been previously frozen, id expect the proucers to be responsible enough to put something like "Previously frozen, do not refreeze" on it.

id say just make sure its properly cooked.

I think there are two main reasons for this. Refreeze and quality reasons, both already mentioned above.

Just make sure its HOT piping though.

It may well be a kind of disclaimer so that If someone somehow gave themselves food poisoning Tescos can say its not their fault. With processed foods there is every chance some of it has been frozen at some point. My tip is to make your own most of these redy meals are crap and full of salt and sugar

When they say this, it is usually because the food will suffer in quality eg the veg in the curry will go watery, or the sauce will curdle, or something like that. If you are prepared to eat it in this condition (and personally, I would if I was hungry!) then just go ahead.

I must confess that on the rare occasion that I have bought frozen fish or meat, I have cooked it then cheerfully re-frozen it. I have, obviously, not died yet!

Just to update you all that I thoroughly cooked the Tesco Finest Green Thai Chicken Curry and immensley enjoyed it!

The sauce did seem to have conglomerated in part but was very tasty.

I felt the food in my stomach all night so much so that I had a really restless nights sleep, with sweats and aches thus only achieving 2 hours kips.

My throat seemed really dry, I kept swollowing and glands quite swollen.

I still havent been able to pass the food yet!

By the sounds of it, you have really come down with a nasty case of cold, rather than food poisoning.
So from that point of view, you were justified in eating the curry!

But I do feel sorry for you. Hope you get better soon.

I've always frozen steak mince from Tesco, but today my grandaughter pointed out that the packet says (in small print) made from frozen and fresh meat. It doesn't say unsuitable for home freezing though. It doesn't say it is suitable for home freezing either.

I think Tesco should put "Unsuitable for home freezing" in bigger print on the label.

No problems with that. Thawing something that is raw, cooking it then freezing it cooked thing is perfectly fine.

It's only raw meat and fish that's unsafe to thaw and refreeze.

I got Lamb chops out of the freezer last weekend, defrosted them and while they were cooking I noticed on the packet "previously frozen...do not re-freeze" (hadn't seen that when I froze them!) Anyway I served them up but couldnt stop worrying so didnt eat them. However didnt tell "the bloke" and he happily munched away, he even ate mine to no ill effect

I do it all the time and have yet to drop dead. Be careful with meat and fish products though. Make sure they're being cooked properly after defrosting, and not just a quick warm up in the microwave.

I'm not risking it any more. I shall check the labels from now on.

I noticed some time ago that ready meals which contain mushrooms never seem to say they're suitable for home freezing; haven't a clue why - and it's never stopped me freezing them.

I follow a strict eating regime cos of my training and I always freeze everything, and nothing's ever happened to me.

I think they just do the whole "Not suitable" thing to avoid any potential trouble.

I think you'll find it's a stomach upset IF you're very unlucky, at worst.

Some years ago, my other half and I purchased food from a very famous, highly expensive department store. It was meant to be eaten as is no warming up etc.
We put the food on platters and stupidly took out the trash before we started eating.
5 days later, we woke up to find we had projectile vomited and pooed all over the bathroom. We must have been concious for some of it but it was all a blur.(good thing we did not have kids at the time cause they would have been pretty badly neglected).

We could not sue, we had thrown away all the food containers and receipts.

Some things should be treated with care, whether you think you have an iron stomach or not.

In fact do not freeze anything, in case it kills you once defrosted.
