Do BT keep a record of where the master socket is located?
I know you're not meant to move them, so I was just wondering if they kept records?
Also, how likely are the engineers to give a hoot/report that it's been moved? My friend has a BT engineer coming tomorrow and his master got moved to a different room when decorating (It's the adjacent room, so no extra cabling was needed). Any help would be appreciated! Thanks. |

Don't worry! I'm an openreach (BT) engineer and can assure you BT do not keep records of where a master socket is located. Even if the engineer suspects it has been moved, he won't be bothered at all - I know I wouldn't be

Thanks very much Dave. Just out of interest, does anybody ever pay BT the £150 or whatever it is to get their master moved?

I occasionally get jobs to move the master socket, but usually it's because they are having building work done so a complete rewire is needed. What I find more surprising though is the number of people who will pay a small fortune for us to fit numerous extensions in nearly every room in the house. I think people forget you can now get digital cordless phones for next to nothing
