I've kept all 3 episodes of Jamaica inn.

I'm going to send them off to GCHQ in Cheltenham to see if their code breakers can decipher it for me.

FYI in the UK it's illegal to build collections of TV shows. According to the IPO, TV recorders are only to be used for timeshifting - from the horse's mouth :

BTW I have the complete Big Bang Theory, mostly downloaded - so is that 2 laws I break every week ?

FYI I dont care and 2 they said the same thing when people were recording the radio 1 top 40 in the 1990s.

That episode has just become available on iTunes - in HD. I'd never seen it before and you're right in that it is a brilliant ep, which didn't shy away from portraying one of its major characters as having racist attitudes. The other racists in the ep were, rightly, portrayed as being vile, which was quite unusual for mainstream telly back then.

The BBC usually keep the first and last episode of every show

Yeah its a shame there is more fans out there who have off air copies of shows not on DVD. Youtube is ok but the quality on the uploads tend to look worse than a actual vhs to dvd transfer.
