HDMI Funny
Hoping some of you folks on here might be able to help with this one.
I've just bought a Sony KDL 52W3000 and it's paired with an Onkyo 606 AV Receiver which has inputs from a PS3, XBox 360 and Denon 1930 DVD Player (Sky HD direct to the TV bypassing the Receiver). Due to a bit of reshuffling I now have the PS3, XBox and Denon in a hi-fi Rack wired into the Onkyo's HDMI inputs. I needed a longer HDMI cable to run from Receiver to TV so I picked up a 7m Cambridge Audio cable from Richer Sounds to run from the 606 to the TV. The problem is that the cable just will not give a signal to the TV. It doesn't matter what order I try to turn devices on or which HDMI Port the cable goes into. After much fussing around I finally moved my PS3 back to the TV and tested every HDMI cable that I have between the TV and the PS3 directly. 5 cables worked fine, the Cambridge Audio gives no signal. When feeding through the Receiver with the Cambridge cable the display shows HDMI dropping in and out so it's almost as if the HDCP is failing in some way. It's definitely not the cables or TV as I'm now using a shorter HDMI cable into the TV from the Onkyo and everything is working 100%, but I really need a longer cable to make it look a bit tidier. I've already been into Richer Sounds and they tested the cable between a TV and input source, it worked with no problems whatsoever. Before I go back again does anyone have any idea what the problem might be ?. Am I doing something stupid ?. So far I've tested every cable and every input/output in my set-up and I don't have a scoobies what the problem is..... |

At a guess, I'd say the 7m cable is a standard (category 1) cable and the PS3 is perhaps outputting 1080p50 / 1080p60 signals which require a high speed (category 2) cable.
When the cable was tested in Richer Sounds, I bet it was being used with a source using a lower data rate that only needs a standard cable. So your solution is to buy a high-speed (category 2) 7m cable. |

Well thanks for all the advice and comments.
I went back into Richer sounds and they swapped the cable over for a higher priced (and specced) one without question and all is now working perfectly. Now very happy with the TV
