This has me quite sad. I like Big Brother... but not what it has become in Australia. Usually there's alot I like about the show... but the negatives are just so glaring you cannot ignore them.

Throughout this season you have been able to sense the desparation of the producers. Let's hope the decision is made to try one last time.

move it to a LATER time slot...the demo that grew up with BB will be older now, and can stay up till past 9pm now.

this series started off ok as well i thought..but its just morphing into any of the others.

I think they're attempting to morph it into the others because the ratings are falling and falling. To be honest I think it was dead before it even started. All I heard people talking about (at work, uni etc.) was how horrible the housemates looked this season and that they didn't want to watch Kyle and Jackie O.

It's a hard task trying to resurrect an almost dead series.

Hasn't BBBA been reporting that it's going to get cancelled every 5 minutes for the last 3 or 4 years though? I love that site, best Aus fan site by a landslide - but it feels like I am reading them saying 'BB in crisis talks' at least a few times a month lol

I'd be gutted if it does get cancelled as BB Aus remains my favourite version, I have not enjoyed it as much this year because it feels as though it's trying too hard to become BBUK (which I have grown to hate, and feel the same way about as most Aus fans feel about BBAus) - but I dont have many fears that it actually will.

Please don't let it be cancelled. The Australian version is my very favourite version of BB. I'm hoping it can survive this year, which I think is fabulous. The only problem I have with this years show is the change in voting system. I don't want any of the nominees to go. The other system gave us evictees that I was very satisfied with. Now I stand to lose one of my faves

I read something that Dreamworld at the Gold Coast where the show is made is contracted for another year.

The only problem is that this time it has a ring of truth to it. The ratings are pretty terrible this year its beginning to be almost unjustifiable keeping the show on the air.


Yes it's contracted for at least another year... but that doesn't really mean Big Brother is guaranteed to run for that year. It depends how much it would cost to buy out the contract. Also they would have the option of basically running a shorter, less 'Big Brother' Big Brother if that makes sense. That's what worries me about talks of a substantial format change.

sounds like the usual bullshit to me. We get these stories every year and they should be taken with a pinch of salt. This is easily the best BBOZ I've seen. It's a real shame they've gone back to the old noms format as I was very happy with the way the new system was working. Sure there was always going to be a point where it reverted back, but it has happened way too soon.

Still, despite that I'm really enjoying it, the previous two seasons I have quit after 3 or 4 weeks and I have had no such thoughts this time round which has to be a good sign.

It might be the best season in a while but its ratings are not anything to write home about. For instance the Sunday daily show received an audience of only 700,000 viewers last weekend, the eviction did slightly better at just over 1 million... but was beaten by both other stations... one of which was showing 60 Minutes.

Really the only thing going in its favour is they have nothing else to show 5 nights a week.

I'm sensing something of an obsession here. Honestly, I really couldn't care less about the ratings. Why would that bother the average British viewer who downloads shows ? It's not like they're going to pull the plug on it half way through the season. The test of a good TV show is not how many other people are watching it with you, the only thing that matters is if you are enjoying it. If you're not enjoying it, then perhaps you should be watching 60 minutes, too ?

I'm not saying British viewers can't enjoy it. I'm saying ratings have to do with whether the show is cancelled or not.

I'm enjoying this season too (for the first time in a long time)! I just thought people would like to be informed about any possible hurdles in the horizon.

I also never implied they would cancel the show midseason. The 'article' I quote from state it is possible it may not be back for 2009, but most likely is it'll be back in some reduced capacity to wait out its contract with Dreamworld.

I'm a British viewer and I'm very concerned with how the ratings go through each series. If the ratings fall too low nobody will be able to watch it or enjoy it, as there'll be no show. As I said above the oz version is my favourite overall of BB (after CBB5 and BB8). They might not canel it during the series, but I still want to enjoy the show for years to come.

Its going to get cancelled every year. Also we always have some idiot politicians and wowser group calling for its banning. This year it has been pretty good but you always get whingers in the forums crying out its not as good as last year, thats happened ever since it started.

BB ratings may be down but there are more reality shows now and it still rates better then anything Channel TEN has to offer. And its still has a healthy sponsorship even though they haven't got a car sponsor this year.

I'm surprised this season hasn't been canned, I was watching and despite some decent housemates the way it's produced it's just awful, reeks of desperation, constant rule and format changes.

Yes, it is Ten's highest rating show. There's also the schedule factor that'd make it hard to can it next year. I can't see them filling the many hours a week BB is on with programmes that rate higher.

It is not Ten's biggest rating show. It's Ten's biggest rating show on the air right now but not overall. Even though it is probably their show that is rating the best right now the ratings are still pretty awful.

I predict we'll have a show next year though at least. I don't think the ratings will drop any further as I think it's basically reached its base viewership.

It's a shame if BBAU really does get given the chop. I started watching BBAU last year for the first time. Bought a 2DVD set of BBAU 5 uncut programmes and downloaded the original first series. Yet to watch that actually.

So, it would be a shame to lose BBAU, especially now that I'm turned off BBUK for the time being

Someone mentioned the sponsorship involved in BB. Given that, I shouild image the number of sponsors will help to keep BBAU going even the ratings are bit on the dodgy side. Funny how BBUK doesn't have many sponsors, just the one and that is NTL/Virgin mobile.
