I like the way that Gwion's Welsh accent comes through in his singing.

quite agree there - the original looks so bland in comparison. I also watched Shiobhan's version in How do you Solve Maria programme and that also was nowhere near so good.

By the way, they would never have given Sam and Harry Truly Scumptious as I think he has sung that prfessionally on the West End stage already and would have put them at a great advatage, as well as cries fo "fix". I agree with one of the earlier posters who said that singing in the rain can be a great number if interpreted correctly - think of having it like a adult and grown up having fun splashing in puddles - it is all about seeing a song beyond its original presentation.

I think that people's gripes that people have been given a poor song choice is completely unfounded unless they have been given one that is clearly outside of their voacl range. Surely one of the points of this competition is to be able to work with a non descript song and make it into a good song. I tried to imagine other people being given "the man that got away" - it was not a song i knew and personally is not an obvious choice and if Jessie hadn't giev it her special touch, people would have criticised the producers for giving her a poor song choice- but somehow the person who got it made many people - the majority to whom it was unknown - fall in love with it - it had the potential to go horribly wrong if it hadn't been interpreted right in the first place. Try to imagine Ashley, or Niamh or Sam doing the song. If Jessie or Jodie did singing in the rain, they might have done it so well that everyone said "wow what a good song choice". Turining a balndish song into a show stopper is the sign of a talented person.

"Singing in the Rain" could have worked, but "Truly Scrumptious" was just made to work in that format. Jessie also didn't have a prop to contend with, so she could be more natural with Gwion.

Jessie was my favourite of the girls in the final, but I do think that her song was the best. However, she did do a good job with it and I don't think the other two would have fared as well.

I keep singing Truly Scrumptious while walking to work. Amazing the impact a good performance can have. It's two weeks since they sang it!

Harry was in Mary Poppins, not Chitty Chitty Bang Bang so don't think he's performed it professionally although also don't think it would have suited him and Sam the way it did Gwion and Jessie, mainly because they don't look as far apart in age. Problem is not Singing in the Rain as such, its that the whole point of the exercise was to see the pairs connect and the lyrics and choreography gave them zero chance to do that. The other two songs were about relationships, the staging had both couples singing to each other and in constant close contact and they were written for child performers. Harry and Sam were separate for most of the routine. I think it was too low vocally for Harry and can't imagine any of the other Olivers pulling it off completely either, Harry at least had his dancing and stage presence on his side, as did Sam.

LOVE Gene Kelly's version but as a duet between a teenage girl and a young boy that's supposed to see them connecting and her being maternal I really feel it was poor song choice.

IMO, Gwion was key to the success of Truly Scrumptious. Either of the other two could have done just as good a job with that song and Gwion as their partner.

Mostly agreed, Golden Anemone, although do think Jessie did it brilliantly. It was Gwion's size, sweetness and even the Welsh lilt to 'Scrumptious' that made this one special. Gwion looks so much younger than 11 in it. The choreography, which gets an audible 'Awww!' from the audience is also only possible because of how small he is. Wouldn't fancy attempting to give Laurence or Harry a piggy back - and they're not exactly tall!

Here is Siobhan's version. I thought she was very good. But it wasn't as good as the way Jessie and Gwion sang it.

If I'm feeling really fed up (which is a regular occurrence for me at the moment) I watch Jessie and Gwion's version of 'Truly Scrumptious' and I've soon got my smile back.

It's just a great performance full of the 'feel good factor'.

I hadn't remembered until I watched this and the original that the arrangement for Jessie and Gwion was different. In Siobhan's and the film version the childern sing the first half of the song to Truly and she replies before they sing together whereas Jessie and Gwion sing alternate lines from the beginning. It meant there was no need for Jessie to do lots of "acting without singing" while Gwion was singing to her. I wonder whether that's why they changed it?

I hardly think so. They had to change the arrangment anyway because in the Jessie/Gwion version there was one child and not two. I'd say they arranged all the duets so that the singing was spread across both performers throughout and kept each number fairly similar so that the audience could easily compare the Nancys.
