BURN GORMAN! *does a wee fangirling dance* I'm so glad that's been confirmed! Now I have reason to go and see the show.

His partnership with Jodie will be mighty interesting to watch.

But it was the public who had the casting vote. When Prenger was named the winner, Lloyd Webber commented: “She’s the people’s choice. I think people love her, they love her open personality. I think they relate to that personality and I think that's what makes her Nancy for the public… Her strengths are her personality and her very, very strong voice."

Mackintosh, who reportedly expressed doubts about Prenger being too “big” for the role (See The Goss, 30 May 2008), said on Saturday: "I'm thrilled for Jodie. She is obviously the public's view of what they want to see as Nancy. She'll give a terrific performance and I really look forward to putting her into training and getting her into rehearsals."

He went on to say that Prenger is “an exceptional talent with a fabulous voice and an unusually warm woman – smart, thoughtful and extremely motivated. She will go from strength to strength and be a terrific success in the role of a lifetime when the show opens in January.”

I think Gorman and Jodie will work well as Bill and Nancy, actually. I like that he's not perceived as being physically menacing (though those of you who watch Torchwood may disagree- he can be scarier than a Weevil when he wants to be!) I think the fact he won't tower over her will enable both to push their acting abilities to their limits, and it will be very interesting to watch.

Burn Gorman will be a wonderful Bill Sikes, and with Rowan Atkinson as Fagin this is going to be a must see. I don't go to theatre a lot anymore but I'll be getting tickets for this one, probably as a birthday present.

Trouble is Nancy got to be fragile and Jodie looks like she could deck Burn Gorman lol

Who said Nancy had to be physically frail?

Sikes is a brute and a bully. Psychological abuse is just as formidable in its own way.

I would be very happy with a young and fragile Nancy if she could sing, dance and act to the required professional standard.

I think it will be convincing.
As for Jodie's age - she is only 28 for goodness sakes! She has the sort of looks that were probably much the same when she was sixteen and will be so at forty-five. You meet people like her. However, she probably looks a lot younger in real life. That stage make up doesn't always make people look younger, certainly not young people.

Reading a comment from The Stage

Having said that Jodie fits Dickens’s description of Nancy better than Jessie, which is as follows:
"A couple of young ladies called to see the young gentlemen; one of whom was named Bet, and the other Nancy. They wore a good deal of hair, not very neatly turned up behind, and were rather untidy about the shoes and stockings. They were not exactly pretty, perhaps; but they had a great deal of colour in their faces, and looked quite stout and hearty."

Jodie fits the description

Wasn't he also supposed to be Davros?!

I can't believe some people are still coming out with the same old nonsense.

You wait - they are going to be fab together. Burn is a fantastic actor - menace will be a walk in the park for him. Watching him being the end of our Jodie will be heartbreaking. Great casting.
