Saw them performed on MTV Movie Awards & was disappointed with Chris's singing....it wasn't very good at all & sounded like he was struggling.

I actually like Coldplay but not sure of their new album as for a start I don't like their La Vida song.

Strange - perhaps a poor sound system? Or maybe he just had a bad voice day, he's usually quite good at singing live.

I'm a big fan of them and the latest single, Violet Hill, and I also like Viva La Vida a lot! I hope the promise of 'This is the album we'll remember them by' comes true when it's released next week.

I think I must be the only person in the world who can't stand Coldplay. I much prefer Keane. Tom Chaplin has a brilliant voice - I have always thought Chris Martin's voice weak and feeble.

I agree with that to some extent. I do like Coldplay actually, I think they've made some great records, but prefer Keane -and Tom's voice is far superior to Chris Martin's. Live it's amazing, so powerful.

Oh, and trust me, you're not the only person in the world who hates Coldplay. Let's just say you fit into these forums just fine.

Believe me Love Bear, you are not! I find a lot of their stuff very drab, depressing and it just sounds very wintery. One of my friends often refers to Coldplay's music as elevator music. I wouldn't want to be stuck in an elevator listening to Coldplay's music to be honest, but I do think there are far more boring artists out there to warrant being called 'elevator music.'

I will never forget going to some wedding once and the B&G's first dance was 'Trouble.' What a way to get a marriage off eh?!?

Oh trust me you're not the only one. There is a hardcore underground movement hiding away and waiting for the right moment to assasinate him for crimes against music.

Anyway perhaps he's got stuck in reverrrrrrrrrraaasre. Let's hope nobody can fix him

Oh thank god, some people agree! All their songs make me want to bury a hole underground and never surface again! They all sound exactly the same, and CM's voice seems restricted to the same pitch!

I don't know how to describe my liking for Coldplay. I cannot stand Chris Martin and i find the band really up themselves, but I do really love their songs and own all their albums. Viva la Vida is an amazing track

lol. My hubby went through a phase of playing The Scientist in the car (he rather likes Coldplay) and I really felt the urge to either a) slit my wrists, b) stab him or c) divorce him. It was hell.

That is pretty bad! It's like bad karaoke!

I like Coldplay and Keane equally as much.

I like Chris's recorded voice but speaking as a fan, I must admit that he's always been a pretty crap live singer.

Just listened to that and it was nowhere near as bad as I was expecting - he just sounds out of breath to me, which often leads to flat notes. There are a load of singers in bands nowadays which sound worse than that live (and even on record!) to be quite honest.

I loved VH, but can't get enough of Viva La Vida, sensational song writing.

I think bashing Coldplay is just a true showcase of traditional British attitude of knocking someone when they're on top. We should celebrate the fact that we produce global stars. Yes criticism is ok, if you don't like something fair enough, but i do find far too many people slate them simply 'because'

Well this is it. A lot of people clearly do feel that their music is depressing, if not soul-destroying in some instances, particularly given that it is overplayed and often at the wrong time! I remember having a discussion with a Head of Music whilst I did some work experience at a local station, and he decided to ask me a few questions about the sort of music the station played. At the time, "The Scientist" was on heavy rotation, and it was the middle of June. I pointed out that if I turned on the radio on a nice day and heard that blaring out, I'd immediately go elsewhere and find another station because it just doesn't fit the sort of mood I'd want to be in on a nice summer's day.

They all sound exactly the same, and CM's voice seems restricted to the same pitch!
I completely agree with you on both counts. Too many of their songs are in a minor key, which doesn't help, and the use of piano is too simplistic and repetitive in all of their songs, which again gives you the impression that their songs sound the same. I used to be in a band which went through a phase of going through Coldplay records and needless to say I quit - the piano parts are well and truly boring to play. Too many minor chords. The worst ones for me were "Clocks" and "Trouble" - how anyone can say the piano parts are inventive defies belief! It's like playing arpeggios and broken chords over and over again, just like I did when I was doing my piano grades!

I just think the "feel" of the song is too similar as well between their songs. The tempo doesn't differ a lot and there's a lot of reliance on very minimalistic background to CM's vocals, which do have a limited timbre in themselves.

Keane are better than Coldplay? Are you lot serious?

I'd bet my house that Coldplay will have a much more successful career.

...have you seen the video for The Scientist? It might throw more light on why your other half played it a lot in the car

I saw Coldplay in Brighton when the ..Rush of Blood.. album was released. I was expecting it to be OK but I came away really blown away by them, as did my mate who had previously been extremely cynical about them.

Yes I have seen it! Just added to the depression somehow.

I simply cannot bear their dirges.
