Hello! Yesterday our landline was working fine. today, we find that our phone doesnt ring. The phones acknowledge the incoming call as the screen displays the name and numeber calling. I unplugged everything and plugged 1 corded phone into the test socket, and tried again, still the same, so i unplugged the corded phone and tried the cordless phone in the test socket, same problem! Wierd! Anyone know what could be wrong?

cheers

it is most likely a problem with the line card at the exchange. ring faults department, say bell not ringing, but you have a dial tone and both way transmission. if you've done the test with a different phone in the test socket then you don't need to worry about the potential charges they will quote to you. then hopefully the diagnostic team should send the fault straight to the exchange department, and you will be back and working as soon as. you don't live in buxton by any chance?

thanks for the replys guys!

The phones are different. One is a BT Easicom 1000 and the cordless is a BT Freestyle 3200 Series.

I rang Sky and they said they are gonna check the exchange for faults first. They will then ring me if and when its fixed.

On your mobile? As if they ring your landline you won't hear it as it will have a fault there, yet they will say it tests OK.

firstly, i rang them from the landline. they then took my mobile number, and rung me back on that and did the line test.

I've on many occasions come across more than one NTE5 in a house which have a test socket but which are not the first socket in the house. Just make sure it definitely is the first socket you are plugging into.
