Samsung 5 series
Hi folks,
Newbie on the site. Have browsed for a while but first post. Recently purchased a 40 inch version of the above - my first venture into the world of Big TVs. I have connected up my Sky+ with a Gold Scart socket. However, there are times when the picture is not all it should be. I cannot compare with terrestrial as I don't have an aeriel connected. Any ideas on how to improve picture quality? TBH The picture appeared better on my old Phillips 28" telly! Cheers in advance. |

What you are experiencing is low quality channels, channels that use a low bitrate.
In addition to this you are upscaling standard definition up to 40". Some channels can look good, but you won't get the best out of your TV until you play high definition through it, simply because this is what it's designed for. Gold plated scart will not improve your picture, a scart that is well shielded will improve the picture as it should give an image that is free from interference. Also make sure the Sky+ box is set to RGB not PAL, this will give you the best picture possible at present. The TV settings will have their part to play, these need to be set up with care, too much contrast, sharpness and brightness can ruin picture quality. Spend a little time with the settings and you should have a reasonable image, though you won't be able to do anything about the low bitrate channels. As with all HDTV's - Source is the key. |

Cheers for the info.
Will play about with the settings and see. Would think that the likes of ITV and the Beeb would deal in better quality tho. |
