Because...

since he is on a small salary and he has showed he has a talent for having no talent in this series, it was probably the only job he could get.

I really can't be bothered to comment

The same can be said about Lucinda - she was working freelance because no one wanted to employ her (it could be said)

Yeah, probably whilst living at home with his parents - free rent, food etc.

No it can't. People who contract make a lot more money and that is why they contract. They are also on a fixed wage and are brought in via an agency or via word of mouth out of their expertise.

Programmers at the turn of this century were earning a million pounds a year and project analysts like Lucinda likewise.

True...but you can sometimes have a lot of talent but get little money for it

I thought it was strange that the interviewers were SO impressed that Alex took a commission only job at a young age. The way I see it is that a young person has the least to lose by taking a commission only job, because

1. The young person doesn't have a family to support, mortgage payments to make and can fall back on their parents for a home if it goes wrong.
2. The young person would only be on a low or moderate salary in a job with a guaranteed salary so why not take the risk and go for the chance of earning more than that?
3. There is far less stigma attached to a young person going out and looking for another job; if the commission only one went tits up then the young person would still be able to get on a graduate scheme with a different company.

Nothing to lose!

It is impressive that Alex took a commission only job, but not THAT impressive. An older person with several kids, a mortgage, loans, etc. taking that kind of job, that's what shows balls.

Sometimes but that sometimes is never in business unless you work for a charity.

It was laughable and your points are exactly why but there are more.

Claire should not be there because anybody who stops doing business with somebody because they send a late email is laughably arrogant and inefficient.

To be honest though my arguement would have been at 24 - he is 24 by the way do you know that - when you probably live at home (If it was his first job) and have no outgoings you can afford to do that. He is reaping the benefits now but that is a young persons job

Jeez I am old!
