On their MySpace they describe themselves as "Rock/Garage/Indie". That logically says; rock music, more specifically garage rock music, with indie ethics (i'm almost certain psychedelia was previously listed instead of indie, so the indie most likely refers to their return to an indie label and ethics more than sound, but maybe both). That's not "several other genres on their Myspace, BEFORE Garage".

I've listened to every one of their albums. Obviously they span multiple genres. You've just admitted garage rock is one of them, so why did you completely deny it and laugh like it was a ludicrous suggestion?

From the official band bio;

Quote:
“wide eyed enthusiasm of a band just out of the garage.”

That's from the very first paragraph.

Quote:
“Each album saw the band build on their sound, an addictive mutation of buzzsaw garage rock and reflective, psychedelic pastoral pop, echoing the music of Liverpool 1966, Seattle 1990 and New York 2001.”

Garage rock is their principle genre, with psychodelia, grunge, etc etc thrown in. Every source, and almost every fan (other than you for some reason) will tell you this. And every source will tell you they're part of what was deemed the "garage rock revival" of the early 2000s. This is undeniable. So who really is the silly chump? I'm guessing it's the person who for seemingly no reason whatsoever implies calling The Vines a garage rock band is like suggesting they're hardcore hip hop.

Quote:
“OK Mr Perfect, at least I admit making mistakes. Maybe you have some kind of... inferiority complex or something.

But can I please ask of you, to post something of worth next time you hit reply ”

I don't claim to be Mr. Perfect, or even imply it. But i don't make random claims, when all evidence is contradicting me, and then get insulting when somebody inevitably argues them. If you don't like it, don't provoke it. Lets not forget you're the person throwing insults and silly comments around.

I can't believe you spend your time arguing about one band being a certain genre and not another. The band in question are actually AUSTRALIAN, and nothing to do with the topic! Can't believe you overlooked that one. Oh well I guess it's all part of being a forum troll. You made the big mistake there bad boy.

Oh and the American music scene is a wonder to behold is it?

Blah I'd take our music scene over anyone elses any day....... At least it isn't full of BLAND, repetitive HIP-HOPPY-RNB-GANGSTA shite and full of bands owned by the Disney corporation.

So you start of moaning about these bands being "mediocre garage shite" and then go onto mention The Strokes. So when someone mentions these bands aren't garage and lists one which are; you argue they are wrong. Then when they prove their point; you ignore they are right and argue the ones mentioned are not British. Yet you're that started talking rubbish and mentioning a non-British band. So lets not fool everyone (ok just you) who the troll is here.

“The Vines - garage rock? LOL.”

You're the one who made comments like the above, so same to you. You said certain bands were garage, i disagreed. You started the genre argument.
The Strokes are American, who you mentioned and is why we're talking about The Vines in the first place. I didn't overlook their nationality, in fact i specifically stated that The Vines et al are not British and that was part of their irrelevance to the British music this thread is based on. It seems you're the troll, not me.

If you apply what he said to British pop music, then I'd have to agree, as pop music in this country is now all about manufactured singing groups and talent show winners.

However I think there are so many good, upcoming, rock bands out there that British rock music has probably rarely had a brighter future.

I'm not quite sure who they are, hence my questions early on in the thread.

MTV2 used to televise some really good, young talent around 2000/2003. It's so sad when I turn it on today and hear the same old stuff, done time and time again with the same bunch of monkeys wearing the same Topman T-Shirts, the same grimy sound and some really pap guitar work. This is considered "kewl" now. And it's not just me either, people are turning to the greats like Radiohead, Goldfrapp, and others which are the benchmark of British talent, who were incredible in their early years AS WELL as later ones.

I think if you look at reviews, music websites and what other music fans are recommending, you will find some good new artists who aren't very well known at the moment. Some of them will be British and some of them won't but who really cares where they come from as long as the music is good?

You believe Carl Barratt and myself are the only ones? Carl was in one of the most exciting bands of this decade. His opinion is far more important than mine or yours.

I was talking to my local records clerk today and even he agrees that the British Rock music scene has went dull.

For one reason it's all about image now not if you play good music this last 5 years same with American.

And most people grow up loving band like Led Zed,Queen and Nirvana too Oasis and many more.

But he said the great thing American has right now is EMO but it won't replace Grunge.
