Rhings that would get a candidate thrown out of an interview
Kris

There is no way I would give a job to anyone who did the following in an interview:

"Reverse pterodactyl" impressions - Lee
Lying on their CV - Lee
Not bothering to spell-check their CV - Lee
Constantly swearing - Helene

I know they weren't real interviews but come on!

Anyone notice the irony here.

Putting 'English-fluent' when you're english in the first place....

But Lee's CV was just awful. Ok fine if you can't spell, but if thats the case use a spellchecker (which should be standard on any document), and get someone to have a look at it before sending it off!!!

There was nothing wrong with that and the interviewer was at faulty with his frankly dated interviewing technique. These interviews are quite unatural anyway as a real interview is as important for both parties. I certainly approach them as an opportunity to see the people I'll be working under and how the company functions just as much as a chance for the interviewer to find out about me.

It wasn't as though Lee walked in doing the impression, the interviewer asked him to do it and Lee was nice enough to oblige. Not only that but the whole process is geared to have them behave in a completely unatural way. For example the insults which are chucked at the contestants and they have to swallow condition them to accept being ridiculed. Lee was just acting out in the way he had been conditioned, which is to do what he is told and not answer back. I doubt that in a real situation most of the contestant would put up with stuff like that themselves.

And because of their approach the morning interviewers in effect frightened off a very good candidate. It wasn't until Lucinda was interviewed by Karen that she decided she wanted the job after all.

Never mind being thrown out, I'd bloody walk out, lol!! I know it's all done in the name of being dramatic and entertainment - but if they're gonna show SAS taking it all so seriously and pretending to be tough, they should continue that theme throughout the show. They were more like panto villains than tough bosses to me. I'd never sit through an interview like that, no matter how much air time it got me. I don't really believe any of them need the job that badly.

She shouldn't have been there if she didn't want the job.

These interviewers give the remaining candidates a hard time, thats what they have done every year. They didn't treat Lucinda any different.

Karen was a little softer in her technique, but I don't think she would hire Lucinda either.

The interviews are pantomime though, if any interviewer took the tone that some of them took with me I wouldn't want to work with them anyway

they've obviously been given a brief to be offensive and unpleasant, every question they asked and every point they made could have been done in a more professional manner

apart from Karren obviously

But she did want the job and when she was interviewed in a less aggressive style she shone through.

I think they may have treated Lucinda a little differently because it was said on the radio this morning that one of the interviewers actually asked SAS to apologise on his behalf for how "hard" he was on her during their interview.

Couldn't agree more, I'd have walked out too.

I thought the pterodactyl thing was rude & humiliating for Lee; the interviewer was taking advantage of someone nervous and eager to please. Lee even said "Are you sure, really?" "I can't believe this!" and the guy said "Gotta see it!". He was just out to ridicule him.

I agree about Helene's foul mouth too. I can't believe no-one took offence or even commented on that. Those thugs seemed to think it was normal acceptable interview behaviour! Karen let me down there; she should have asked her to rephrase her comments. Margaret wouldn't have stood for it!

Well Brady's interview was an embarrassing female bonding session more than an interview, she should have had some scent candles in the room and a futon rather than a desk. Brady clearly has some feminist agenda to promote women in the workplace and as a result displayed all of the faults targeted at women in business, she was biased, emotionally-orientated and modcuddled the girls and attempted to be enquiring with the boys and even then she decided to introduce Alex's sexual appeal into the discussion. Acutely embarrassing. Can't women keep the subject of sex out of anything? Hopeless woman.

Those interviewers were way too harsh.

Lucinda got the worst of it - she was branded "unemployable" and a "nutcase". I know they are meant to be tough but do such insults need to be thrown around to prove their point?

I thought Karen was the best. She was firm without being aggressive. And Bordan was OK too.

It's you again.

Are you sure you're not Mr Blonde? How do you feel about Jade Goody? Only your posts are beginning to have a familiar ring to them. Like Mr Blonde you pick the most contentious character in a RT programme and then articulately defend their actions to the hilt, whilst cleverly trying to pull to pieces arguments supporting more worthy candidates.

Mr Blonde good to see you're back!
