Help! - Vegan shopping list
Hey,
I'm trying to make a vegan shopping list that's cheap and nutritious but I'm running into some problems. Mainly, I want to make sure I'm getting all the correct vitamins etc, but I'm not sure which foods to get and I seem to buy too many fake meat products and my mum doesn't like that because it's too expensive. ![]() I was wondering if anyone here who's a vegan could help me out? Thanks

Thanks ![]() I've also given the link to the Vegan Society web page,it has many useful hints and links. In fact if you log on and go the the "shop" section you will find this book available for order online. The book also tells you have cosmetics, toiletries etc are animal friendly. www.vegansociety.com |

i dont even get the fake meat thing anyway, its a poor substitue.
Dont you need lots of pulses/seeds etc. thats a good source of good oils. Varying veg aswell has diffrent nutrients. |

The best (and convenient) things are tinned chick peas, kidney beans etc. Usually 40p a tin at sainsburys etc.
Chick peas - tagine, Kidney beans - chili Aduki beans - aduki burgers + you can make a cottage pie with tinned lentils. Also useful is dried TVP mince for all sorts of things, from some Tesco (world foods section) or Holland and Barrett. Don't get the TVP chunks, it's horrible. Tesco also do own brand frozen mince, excellent for tacos etc. Quick pizza using Sainsbury or Tesco own brand pizza mix (in the flour/baking section) with Redwood foods Cheezly (use the super melting Mozzarella) from H&B 1.85 a pack. Stir fry with tofu (you need to "beef" it up with soy sauce or sweet and sour sauce or whatever, it tastes of nothing otherwise. Don't get too hung up on protein etc, tinned pulses and TVP have all you need. (My strapping 22 year old vegan son was brought up on them). Let me know if you need recipes. A good very basic cookbook is Healthy living for the New Age by Joyce d'Silva, out of print but on Amazon. |

i had a friend who was vegan, took him hours to boil chick peas.I've stuck with being vegetarian for 25 years i found it easy enough, veganism is a lot harder though.
You can't go wrong with raw vegetables of every type, there is vegan cheese,i tend to stay away from all the fake meat products as some of them are horrible,to me anyway. Pasta is easy enough, ratatouille. |

Thanks for your help everyone, I've been trying to make a shopping list for weeks but it's really hard cos I'm allergic to nuts.
Cheers again!
