Has anyone got any experience of this TV and if so is it any good.

The reviewers certainly like it...

"By any standards the AV-28R25EK is a great little TV. By the standards of a TV priced at just £650, it's only a fraction short of miraculous."

What Video & TV - Best Buy Award - July 2002

AV-28R25 - Natural Flat Dolby Pro Logic 3D Phonic

"JVC claims its set boasts NaturalVision, and we can't really argue with that. Images are sharp and stable, colours are natural without being over the top, and contrast ratios are razor sharp."

Home Entertainment - Best Buy - September 2002

AV-28R25EK - Natural Flat Dolby Pro Logic 3D Phonic

"Picture; looks; price; sound - what more do you want?"

Home Cinema Choice Best Buy - June 2002

Also 32" version.
AV-32R25EK - Natural Flat Dolby Pro Logic 3D Phonic

"JVC has long had a knack of delivering pristine 50Hz pictures. And the 32R25EK is arguably its finest effort yet. Particularly gobsmaking for a TV at such a reasonable price it its awesome colour response."

I've got the JVC AV28R370KE which I think is a similar set.

It was £600 and is an excellent set, surround sound speakers with dolby pro-logic, if you aren't interested in adding a seperate sound system then this is excellent.
Picture quality is very good - needed adjusting slightly as it was losing some of the bottom of the pic (only noticeable when there was text close to the bottom and it got cut off), but once I got the remote code to get into the service menu (press mute and i buttons together) it was very easy to adjust.

The only gripe I had was the picture being slightly off at the bottom but now thats sorted I can't fault it at all - just wish I had room for the 32" instead!

Hi I bought this great littel TV yesterday but theres one (major) problem - a high pitched buzzing sound which comes from the inside of the TV.

Its very annoying and for some reason gets louder when you use the 14:9 zoom option!

Is my set faulty or is this a flaw. If it is a flaw I will reconsider the purchase although it is a magnificent TV for its price.

Also when using the 14:9 zoom do others find that the side borders are extremely slanted?

cheers

sounds like you got a duffer there...while the is a sound from the back of the tv is it not very loud at all. most tv's have a slight buzzing.

the picture you can probably alter yourself via the service menu

mute and info button at the same time

there is another thread stating which menu you need i think it is menu 4..but check through the othere threads here just to be sure.

remember to note all the setting first should you mess up

The sound from the back of the set is probably slightly noisy scan coils.

If you do adjust the set yourelf, make sure you adjust 50Hz Panoramic first as this will affect the other adjustments. Press the red text key to switch between the various screen modes while in Service Mode. Do not adjust any of the HV adjustments and remember that if you get it wrong it won't be covered by the guarantee.

Press mute and i buttons at same time which will bring up the service menu then go into option 4, you can then adjust the picture settings

So is the buzzing normal for this TV then? because it is really annoying the hell out of me - it really is. Also when watching non anamorphic films and I use the zoom options the buzzing becomes louder!

The buzzing can be heard from a distance and because its quite high pitched it is noticeable even when sound is being played.

I have thrown away the packaging so I can't even exchange or return it.

Can anyone with the TV tell me whether the noise is normal? I'm abit gutted since this TV is close to perfection otherwise.

the buzzing is not normal from your description. i have just popped down stairs to check and you can hardly hear mine, its more like the buzz from a power pack real quiet. so yours must be knackered. by throwing out the packaging does not mean you can not get a refund or exchange...well not in the uk.

take it back and demand a replacement.

good luck m8

I got my replacement TV today and guess what the buzzing is still there (seems to be more behind the lower part of the screen than anything), although it is perhaps not so bad but still more than noticeable when you reach a quiet spell in a film. However it now maintains a consistent volume level and does not seem to get louder when switching to certain zoom modes.

I checked out the Pro Logic AV-28R370K version and the nicam version: AV-28T25EK in the shop and both of those do not have the buzzing sound evident, so I'm a little disappointed with my AV-25R25EK. The room its in is quite small and quiet so I suppose that could be the difference although the other 2 TVs in my house are practically silent (one 28 inch and the other 21 inch). Also my mates Philips TV is practically silent as well.

I got rid of the packaging otherwise I would have returned this and got the Pro Logic model with the speakers from Comet even though it would be an extra 200 quid...

I'm about to purchase one... did it turn out to be any good?

PS. The buzzing sound relates to a component on one of the boards in the TV, which has come loose and vibrates. I had the same problem with a Toshiba. The component is responsible for some visual processing, which is why the sound/buzzing is different depending on what the TV is showing on-screen. It's usually fixed by dipping the boad in resin and allowing it to set, to prevent further vibration.

Paid £700 about 8 months ago from www.shopathills.co.uk
now its down to £650.

Came without the surround speakers, just used the old ones from the Panasonic.
Same model in Comet around £850(did have speakers)

Thanks for the reply - Think the 32" would be a bit dominating in my flat though! How much do the extra speakers cost?
