^Yeah, sometimes I wonder if I'm watching the same thing as some of the posters on this board. Well, the audience I was in loved her, and the critics gave her glowing reviews and she won 2 Best Newcomer awards (one from critics), so a lot of people must have agreed with me.

Hey! I've just realised.......no one has mentioned Daniel being unfairly eliminated for at least two pages!!

Here's a clip that I think is a better representation of the scene more in context:

This was also early in the run, because there aren't any clips from the late part of Connie's run. When I saw it on her last night, some of her delivery of lines was different than it is here--she didn't look quite so flustered on the "well, sometimes we do that!" part, for instance, and made more of a joke about it.

One thing about some of the awkwardness in the scene or what you call "forced" delivery is that in the play this scene is right after Maria has first met the children, and there is supposed to be awkwardness at first and they all warm up to each other more through the course of the song. It's different than the movie which places this scene later in the action when Maria and the children already have a well-established relationship. I think Connie is fab, and the CIN clip is a more accurate representation of the scene as it appears in the actual show.”

the one you posted there proved my assumpution that it definately got much better and was not forced.

The funny thing, piper, is that the clip I posted was actually from *before* the RVP broadcast. I think the problem with the RVP was that they just threw a bunch of non-connected scenes together and it threw the whole cast off. They were usually much better than that, as evidenced by the CIN which was actually shown a week after SOM opened.

I don't think Connie was bad in RVP, though, just not as good as she usually was. I actually think her singing was better in the RVP clip, but the acting was better in the CIN clip. And she was much better live than she was in both of these clips.

i believe you. but i don't take on the excuse about the thrown together scene for the RVP, when it is done over and over again it should be like brushing your teeth, done simply. those scenes were not disconnected, they were all in context of knowing how to work with one another. the kids were fine. she was off. just my opinion. the "Yes, Brigita I did" was especially painful.

i understand what you are saying and do not think Connie is horrible by any stretch, please know i think she is wonferful

I've been in plays before, and helped direct a few as well. The cast is used to performing scenes in context, and the flow of the production helps build the energy of the cast and keep them on track. If you just take one scene out of context, it's a little harder to maintain that flow, but if you take a few scenes and put them together in a different order than they are in the show (like RVP, which as "Favorite Things" before "Do Re Me" when in the actual show it is after), it can really disrupt the flow. I also think the kids were better in CIN, but it was a different set of kids so maybe that set was just better than the other set.

Snoop, so have I and have had to do pick or be ina a scene or two for pre adjucication out of a play and if every scene is tight and well rehearsed you should be able to go right into it. i know what you are saying, but you are not going to change my mind on the RVP and the fact that i thought it was poorly acted. i agree with you on everything else you are saying.

OK, fair enough. I wasn't trying to change your opinion--I was just trying to explain why the performance may have been "off", even though I don't think it was as "off" as you apparently do.
