I Phone Off Ebay

Hi

Im buying an I Phone off Ebay at the moment. I dont want to get locked into a contract so am buying one of the unlocked phones.

Is it just the same as buying one off O2? The phone wont suddenly stop working in a few weeks will it if O2 find out that Im using it? One of the descriptions on Ebay says do not Update the phone as this will result in it relocking?

Thanks

You might as well just buy one new from a store. They can be purchased at point of sale without a contract, and can be unlocked in 45 seconds with a piece of software.

I would wait until at least Monday though, when the new one is introduced. That will at least unleash a flood of older iPhones to the second hand market, or you may be be able to pick up a refurbished model in the weeks to come.

no, it won't suddenly stop working in a few weeks. however, updating the software in future may relock the phone.

how much are you paying for it?

take note of pingu's wise words!

I just spoke to O2 on the phone as I already have a couple of contracts with them and was trying to get one off them and they said that they are no longer doing them and that they have withdrawn them.

I said will they be doing them again soon when they come back into stock and he said no, they are no longer dealing with the I Phone at all - anybody know whats going on?

Yes there are very strong rumours a new iPhone will be announced/coming out tomorrow. With 3G and video chatting, 32 gigs of RAM, in multi-colours.

Backed up by the fact you can't buy the old one anymore

I'm thinking about buying an iPhone when the new one is announced tomorrow. If I unlock it using software such as iLiberty+, and then I update the iPhone and it ends up locking itself, can I just use that software to unlock it again?

You can on the current iPhone, really simply. Obv no one knows how easy the new iPhone will be to unlock, or if the current apps like ziPhone will be able to unlock it yet, prob not, we'll have to wait a few weeks til they come up with a way to unlock it.

The iphone is "not in stock" on the O2 website and doesn't seem to be available for order on the CPW site either. Be interesting if ties have been severed and by whom. Up until last month O2 were still trying to get retention customers to take an iphone contract.

Anyone from O2 on here?

they ran out of stock a few weeks back. the special offer of £100 off moved the stock rather quickly. they await the new model.

It's been reported in the past that o2 have signed a pretty long deal with Apple to carry the iPhone, so it's fairly certain they'll be selling the 3G version.
Apple are very tight with information about future products, which explains the o2 CSRs' lack of information.

HTC make some nice hardware, but it's generally always let down by the archaic structure of Windows Mobile. The sheer amount of extra pieces of software, drivers and fixes makes for a terrible user experience.

I thought maybe they were just fobbing me off so got my housemate to ring them as well and a woman also told him that they will no longer be supplying the I Phone. He said what about when the new model launches and she told him that new or old they will no longer be supplying them.

Surely this cant be right though, perhaps they just are not allowed to say about the new model yet

customer service level employees have no information on future apple products.

You'll just have to buy one of these! Even though it's a pre-production model it looks pretty cool. I love the windscreen wipers!

Just not the same though is it?

I would rather say that I have an I Phone than I have a HTC Diamond, shallow as that is!
