Jeff Wayne's The War of the Worlds - 30 Years

30 Years Ago tomorrow (June 9th) Jeff Wayne's The War of the Worlds was launched in London just prior to its release in July 1978.

At the time Concept Albums were all the fashion and this album stayed in the UK charts for over 6 years. I can't believe its now 30 years, it still sounds as fresh today as it did then.

Excellent album, the sort of thing you listen to once a year or so, and always sounds great. Not crazy about the last track (the epilogue): think they should have left that off. But fantastic stuff.
Just got the live stageshow DVD, but haven't watched it yet. Looking forward to doing so.
Happy Birthday JWMVOTWOTW, and may I just say

UUUUUUULLLAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

yes a great album I thought more people would say Phil Lynott didn't seem up to it, he sounded very ill during his parts.

Have heard mixed reviews about the live show so not seen it yet, not sure if he is still touring with it anymore.

Might give it a spin later on in the week

I saw the live show on Tuesday night in Sheffield and it was absolutely amazing. I went with hubby and our 3 boys (13 yr old twins and 7 yr old) and we all loved it. It was the kids' first real theatre experience and I'm so glad we took them to this. The special effects are great, and the music is (obviously) brilliant.

I would definitely recommend it - a fabulous night out.

I know this thread is something like 4 months old now but I would like to make the point of how many albums have spurred off from this Album, and I was thinking of some exceptional tracks from this album, The Red Weed has got to be one, and The Fighting Machine has got to be anouther, but my personal favorite track from the album is 'Forever Autumn', absolutely brilliant
