No-one really could know what a pterodactyl really sounds like, unless there's a person of 64 million years old in our midst.

I guess he got it from Jurassic Park, who in turn got it from....a vulture.

It doesn't go anywhere does it, just on the spot?

He has a whole range of related noises including "Pterodactyl Hanging a U-ie", "Pterodactyl letting out the Clutch whilst in Neutral" and "Pterodactyl picking it's nose whilst stuck at the lights". Though that last one is really more of a mime.

Surely a reverse pterodactyl sounds more like....."Beep, beep, beep. Caution. Pterodactyl reversing. Beep, beep, beep....."

Pterodactyl to me suggests it silently hunts things down, not squawking all the time.

Is it just me, or is the impression a bit, well, rubbish?

None of us have ever seen or heard a pterodactyl. For all we know it could be spot on.

I don't think he necessarily got it from Jurassic Park. I had a friend, back in the early 70s - long before Jurassic Park came out - who drove us all mad with her endless pterodactyl impressions. Having said that, they were quite good - and not dissimilar to Alex's.

(I won't mention my friend's name, but if she's reading this - You know who you are!!!)

We may have to hold Ray Harryhausen responsible for this. Or possibly all those mid-1970s Edgar Rice Burroughs flicks starring Doug McClure (you may remember him from such films as 'At the Earth's Core' and 'The Land That Time Forgot').

I found it quite amusing.

If Lee had refused to do his impression, I bet Bearded Git (Paul, not Suralan) would have moaned that he was humourless.

I think the Guardian suggestion of moving on to try a reverse triceratops is a good one.
