Yes, he gets paid a lot. He also gets paid by NCB for each episode. After the popularity of the first season, he tried to negotiate his salary up to more than $1 million pr. episode. He compared himself to the actors of "Friends" (a show with equal ratings), and took their salaries and multiplied it by 6 because they were six persons and he was just one, LOL.

I'm sure SAS doesn't need the money, and his image is enhanced by his donating to charity. I don't see him as mean spirited anyway. He's worked hard from the bottom up to get where he is. I'm sure he appreciates that some people don't have any opportunities open to them at all, and he wants to give something back to the charities of his choice.
