Anyone getting BBC 1 Picture Freezing?

Just had three total picture freezes on BBC 1 over the space of half an hour.

Switched to another BBC channel and it froze there also.

Weather perfect and no other signs of problems with signal etc.

Recording something at the same time but it has recorded fine and will play.

Anyone else getting this to suggest a broadcasting glitch?

Or is this a symptom of the infamous capacitor fault with the Thomson HD boxes?

Added info if it helps any suggestions.

The programme being recorded (on channel 5) played for about 90 seconds and then went to Recording Interrupted and was like that for the rest of the time.

After this recording (whichn showed as recorded and took up 2% disk space) nothing else was being recorded. But the picture freezes on BBC 1 which was being watched continued as before.

When the picture froze (sometimes with bottom half of the screen on top and the top half below) the programme sound continued unaffected.

Done a reboot to see if this assists, but it did not help play the Five programme. Still showed recording interrupted from the point 2 minutes into it up tp the end.

Never seen the box behave like this.

Signal strength and quality on both tuners is around 50% which is pretty normal for this two year old box.

Yes .... I am getting this NOW (app 19:00 09/06) and have been since earlier today when it happened whilst watching Nascar on Skysports 2. It has happened about half a dozen times in the last half hour or so .... this on BBC HD and non HD.

Have to turn the box off or change channel.

Grrrrr .....

Me too, BBC1 and 2. Particularly bad during Mary Queen of Shops... pic freezes like you say, roughly cut in half, sound continues... weird

Same thing happened twice tonight. At 8.45pm on BBC2 and about 25mins later on Living. Changing channels or pressing the Sky button solves the problem but very annoying.

same here too. Been doing it every 15 minutes or so for the last hour, trying to watch the footie on ITV1.

I am also recording something in the background, so I guess that's toast.

I've been recording Dispatches whilst watching the (regularly freezing) BBC2 - seems like the Dispatches recording is ok so far (no "failed" sign yet)... we shall see! This is all very strange...

I've never had it before and I've had it on 'five' branded channels tonight.

All I can report is that after the reboot we did not get any problems for the rest of the day.

Was it the hot weather? Was it a widespread glitch via the satellite or Sky themselves?

Was it the Cylons?

We should be told.

Rather relieved that some of you got it, too, though, as this suggests it was something other than all our boxes going kaput.

i've started getting this problem now.my box was okay until sky did the software update from f to j .
since the new update i've got the picture freezing problem and the recording interrupted fault.

it looks like sky have caused problems again with there software updates.

These problems seem only to be affecting those who are on the new epg.

Are sky pulling the plug on the upgrades until it is sorted?

Neither of my boxes has yet received the new epg (thank goodness) - if they do is there any way of reverting to the old version?

I'm on the new Epg and my boxes don't have this problem as for roll back I did a forced update and ended up on 5.10j

Mine updated a few days ago & so far no evidence of freezing video or sound. If it was caused by the recent small update, I'm sure it'll get sorted out with the next.

But my boxes work fairly well on the old epg/version - I do not want a host of cr@p recordings if and when it updates lasting to whenever sky bother to fix it (weeks/months - possibly never judging by their responses to previous problems)

The only thing I've noticed in the week or so that I've had the latest software update is that the automatic standby function, which I had set to off, was now set to on. Needless to say I have put it back to off.

Other than that no adverse affects.

I don't think it's the latest update causing this problem. Mine was doing it before the update, and has only done it that once.

Now my box has been updated, I haven't seen it do it, but it doesn't mean it won't. I just think its yet again one of those things that SkyHD boxes do, and we've just got to live with it and work round it.

I hope when this new EPG (that I think looks great) arrives it works properly, and all the problems we've been having have been caused by them attempting to shoe horn 10 year old software, onto new cutting edge technology.

Could well be the case, because I rarely go into the boxes settings. So it may have been re-set some time back. Though I've never seen the box warn me it was proposing to go into standby while I've been watching something.

Anyway, I'm sure most things will click into place when the new stuff arrives in the Autumn.

As reported by someone above. it has also only happened to us the once that I first described and not since the reboot a week or so ago.

We now have the new software (only updated for us recently - so updates ARE still happening). The update happened for us AFTER the freezing had occurred and we have had no freezing with it, so I can safely argue that this update is not the cause.

We have no negative effects from it at all. Though no sign of it having improved anything (such as FFW) either.

Since the update only goes from .02 to .10 I wouldn't have expected anything major in it. Kind of on the same level of a .03 update by Skype, where they're correcting something like a spelling mistake.....

sound issues

I have the reverse issue - the picture is fine (apart from a quick blip) but this is then followed by the sound breaking up then long periods without sound. There is some occassional picture judder bit mainly fine when sound is out.

Seems to be only on playback and I am using optical audio, however I have turned the amp off and there is no sound through TV either.

Has never been a problem until this week.

Sometimes you can then rewind and it will be fine 2nd time around.

Maybe another issue?

How do you do the defrag that everyone is talking about?

The EPG update is not due until the autumn. The minor software update may be connected (or not) but is no big deal (ie no obvious new features). They are slowly releasing it to all boxes. This usually takes weeks and they seem midway.

Try a reboot after unplugging at the wall for 10 minutes or so and see if this helps the freezing as it did with us.
