Is your network signal down?
I have two mobiles, one on Virgin and one on T-Mobile.
Presently, both of my mobile phone signals are dead... Is it the heat or atmosphere..? Is anyone else suffering a similar network problem? My phones are both continually searching for a network I'm in Essex btw. Cheers, if anyone responds.

Thanks.
Both my networks are still down, it probably is local. I'm sending many local text messages from online and am getting no responses. It's like when there is a power cut and everything seems so insular. There maybe no mobile communication in my locality... We become so reliant on all this technology. I love it though.

Mine are not and Orange say that they will repair ours on the 23rd. It went down last night! What could be the problem! Only Orange are down on our mast.

Chris ![]() Probably some of their equipment went wrong... doesn't affect the other providers because they all use seperate equipment but (in some cases) share the towers. |

No problems with reception here in West London on Vodafone. but in the last few days I've noticed that the area codes on Vodafone are absent. I know it's not a fault with my local Vodafone transmitter, wherever that might be - haven't got a clue and the Radcomms agency sitefinder isn't very helpful and of course Vodafone won't tell me for fear I might sabotage it!
As I said, I know it's not a local fault as I went into central London yesterday and there was no code on my phone at all. Maybe they switched the equipment off that generates the codes in order for it to cool down. (Anybody know what equipment Vodafone use to send the codes to phones that have this facility?) |

My T-mobile reception was very ropey on Sun Morning (about 3am)
It was a bit foggy at the time though. |

Don't think Vodafone are going to do away with it - it can be quite handy (particularly for anoraks like me, on long journeys out of London I make a note of all the area codes we pass through and then I can check which exchanges I've been picking up signals from on a website - sad eh? lol!
But they need to get the code right in some areas. For example in London on one transmitter I'd get "0208" and then on another I'd get just "020"... And then there's the areas that have overlapping codes but I'm not sure Vodafone can do much about that. |

The best DX copy was actually on O2 a distance of about 90 miles! I can even get 70 miles on Vodafone from my house if i put my phone in the right place

I look them up at this site which appears to be down at present...
I've actually just found this site as well which gives you some codes you can use to find out things like which Mobile Switching Centre your calls go via en-route to the person you are calling... it's rather interesting - here in Acton, mine seem to go via Northolt! Here are the codes - I know they work on Vodafone - but not sure about other networks: *#100# Displays Your Number *#101# Home Location Register *#102# Visitor Location Register (this number tells you which Mobile switching centre you are using) *#103# The current Date & Time *#104# mailbox number & recall information *#105# - not sure what this one does as it doesn't list it on the site - just found it by chance. *#147# - number of your last caller |

*#105# is one I didnt know about but it looks likes a record of your last Visitor Location Register giving time, date and base station ID?! I downloaded the STD code list in a text file from the warrick website a while ago (just as well!).

I think they might only work on Vodafone.
BTW, Everythingoes, I presume you're on Vodafone, what area does it give you when you dial *#102# ? (Just curious) |

These codes wont work on Orange. If you try them all you will get is an error message! James Vertigan I have sim cards for all networks When I type in *#102# for the VLR I get VF - Werneth. Werneth is on the outskirts of Manchester and I have never been in England with my mobile! What do you get and is it near you?

I get "VF Northolt" as my VLR - which is strange as the cellsites website says there is a VLR in Acton (where I live!) so shouldn't I be getting that instead?
(Northolt is at least a 20 minute drive down the A40 from me!) Last edited by James Vertigan : 12-08-2003 at 01:07. |
