It doesn't make it clear on the bottle. But, I think it means keep adding it daily until the wound shows signs of healing then discontinue use as the med's still in the water. Just keep doing 10-20% water changes every week I suppose. If the Melafix is gonna work, then you should see results within a week or so. - Any pics of the fin?

I just feed all my shrimps normal fake food and Novo Prawn - but, that's just because I found it and I am a bugger for buying unnecessary things.

BiOrb Filtration : The sintered ceramic gravel acts as an undergravel filter. It's gonna want to suck all food and muck into the gravel. It's gonna get clogged up quite quickly anyway. I'd replace the gravel with sand. It won't impede the flow much (the frogs breathe air anyway and the shrimps have more than enough oxygen), on the plus side - the food won't disapear into the gravel and the shrimps will enjoy sifting through the mulm that collects on the sand surface. The BiOrb filter still has the foam cartridge for mechanical/biological filtration anyway.

After picking up your previous post and spending the best part of 2 and a half hours replying to it, and after pressing submit I found this on the bottom of page 1.

The RC might have got the hump from being bit himself. In the meantime the Danio's better off in the BiOrb. Probably best pit the Cory in there too. Mr Rainbow Cichlid may like a
Mrs Rainbow for 'company'.

When the Rc was with the GT, the GT as the king of the tank and the RC was second-in-command and was bitten, now the RC is king of the tank and he has bitten the now second-in-command (the Danio).

He needs something peaceful but bigger or the same size as him for company I guess.

He must have been very fast as Danios are rapid movers.

Treat the BiOrb with Melafix as well.

Well The biorb now has a very poorly danio, cory, 3 shrimps and 2 frogs in it. The bugger that is the RC has taken over the tank. He's ripped out all the plants and dug into the gravel LOL. AAAAAAARRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH. On the plus side the RC's lump is not so red but its still very much a lump. I've tried to take a photo but every time he sees me he hides. Its as if he knows he's done wrong. I'm gonna need something tough that can stand up for itself to go in the tank with him. Gourami's are out for sure. I'm not particularly keen on Silver sharks (!) but I'm getting more for the GT tank because he accepts that they aren't a threat to him. What on earth can I put in the RC tank. He's got it all to himself with uprooted plants and piles of gravel!!.

Blooming fish. Who would have them.

Think I'll stick to these.

Crikey that first list is extremely long and i'm dubious about some of the fish in it. Mollys????? Apart from water conditions there's no way one of them would survive. I've decided on a dwarf cichlid although I'm not sure which one. Seen agassizii in my local shop so may look into that. I've never had any luck with rams for some reason but a pair of them would soon sort of Mr High and Might RC.

Just about to do my part water changes and check on the danio.

Poor Danio.

I would leave him be, let the Melafix soothe his injuries while he tries to heal himself. If he has the will, he'll pull through if given peace and food.

I had 3 Cardinals that came with a tank I bought. One of them had this long curly white worm thingy growing all over it's tail (I hadn't seen anything like it before), so I decided to 'operate' - I used a sharp knife and cut it off of it's tail - (not easy considering the poor Cardinal was only 1" long, and it's tail must have been only about 3mm) - Anyway, he pulled through fine. About a year later one of his eyes swelled up to about 3 times normal size like a clear balloon and it had another one of those bloody worms inside his eyeball - I couldn't cut that one out, but he was feeding and swimming normally so I left him alone. It turned out that the worm thingy then disappeared and he was fine.

Then I set up a new planted tank and bought a school of Cardinals for it - introduced them to the new tank and I thought he & the other 2 would be a lot happier with the new school than on their own, so I put them all together.

Next day It turns out the bloody new Cardinals (bought from Pets At Home btw) had brought B*stard white Spot with them - a particularly virulent strain of White Spot - and killed the lot, including my poor 'Survivor'.

Then the 'PAH' white Spot went on to kill about 30-40 Cardinals, Killifish and platys.

Spare the little fella, .....then (when he's well enough), buy him some other Danio mates to swim with, he'll be very happy.

Well Danny the danio died this morning He had a good meal last night but he never really got over the beating from the thug RC.

I have tried as hard as I can to get a photo of the RC but the wee bugger is scared of me LOL. I captured it on digicam though so here is a link to a clip on youtube.

I'm continuing with the melafix but its not helping. Its getting bigger. Cancer of the tail? I wish I had your bravery and could chop the end off but i know I can't. Its not so red now though I must add. its just a horrible grey/pink lump.

What do you think? Its been more than 4 weeks. I'm definitely not adding fish so in effect he's in isolation. He isn't hiding any more and in fact is attacking the glass if I walk in front of it (He hates me with a passion). I'm still using melafix and doing water changes. Do you think this lesion will burst? Shall I give another water change as soon as I notice that happening? Will he always have to be kept alone if he does indeed survive this? Its interesting that no deaths are linked to the lesions. It doesn't seem to be having any adverse effect on him either. He's displaying his colours beautifully to the GT who is in the adjacent tank. I reckon he must have got his tail nipped, stressed then the lesion came out. Its still growing as well. Crikey what a thing to get.

Hello again. First off I found This Stuff - whether I trust it, i don't know.... Plus, I don't know where to buy it other than on-line.

I do think you should do a hefty water change and rinse out the filter media in the old water to try to reduce any excess Nitrates/Ammonia that might be present.

I reckon that after the lump has bust and run it's course, a good tank cleanout and a couple of weeks of rest for the tank I don't see why you couldn't add any other fish to the tank as you're probably right, in that, the stress that the RC was getting from the GT and the resulting injury was the ideal breeding ground for the Lymp to take hold.

Short of cutting the bloody thing off off the tail, I think it will just have to run it's course. I as going to say - try adding salt - but I can't find anyone advising anything to to with salt and lumps.

They're also gonna look at my youtube clip to confirm your diagnosis. I can use this stuff with Melafix and they've also said the main thing is to keep my water just right. I've done all that and it gets a very varied diet so hopefully in the next few weeks he'll be all better and i will owe you many virtual pints by then. It looks gross but its not gonna kill him thankfully and they also said it was more than liely caused by the stress of living with the GT and having his fins nipped.

I'll post more at the weekend when I get the stuff. You've been great and very patient.

Yay! Pimafix. I always have a bottle as it's always recommended as a compliment to Melafix, again it's a natural remedy - Primafix is an extract of 'West Indian Bay Tree oil'.

They both smell really nice, like Aromatherapy oils...

In the wild, when a fish is sick, it will wander off and chomp on the leaves of these trees to 'self heal' themselves naturally.

Have you looked at youtube for Malawis? They're still my favourite. I used to keep Jack Dempseys but they got hole in the head. We travelled to Stirling University in 1981 to see if they could cure it but alas they couldn't. i see there is now remedies for it available. Changed days. I remember that if you had a sick fish you would put methylene blue in the tank and have a blue tank for a few days LOL. God do they even sell that now?

The RC now has a sticking out gill and it looks like its being forced open by something behind it. It wont let me look and I don't want to interfere too much. Its red lump on its tail is just the same and still red and looks sore

I've been using the meds and part water changes have been done regularly. I've turned the temperature up to 81 degrees to see if that helps pick him up (It was at 78)
