Presumably there is a UK choice in the country selection, and/or first time install? Sounds like you were sent a European version, which traditionally have not had UK support built-in - maybe that has changed.

Ok, that's cool. Obviously is a UK build then, albeit a hybrid one with that startup/shutdown logo left in, which was targetted to a specific customer. Just thank god that you don't have a whacking great Argos logo appear instead .

Booting from LP Mode does take a long time, a minimum of 1m40s if I recall correctly and considerably longer than that if it was powered off with the HD running. That seems to require a long Disk Check followed by an initialisation routine. Using LP has other implications also. See my post here.

Well, Meliconi would be the obvious choice . Although they don't seem to mention it on their site, there are Meliconi satellite receivers and pvrs out there (e.g. Meliconi DTM-100). There are no doubt many other different brands of T825 units available outside the UK. The software builds will of course be different - compiled with different features, options, settings available, etc. I'm not sure of how things are outside the UK, but presumably code necessary for Freeview+ support is specific to the UK builds.

What I found when testing various unreleased T816 builds was that quite often they were built with slightly different feature-sets, which made it hard as far as reporting bugs was concerned because in many cases I couldn't be sure if a problem was a bug or just because it was compiled with a different feature-set. So, this v10.9 obviously isn't a release version, and indicates that the didn't do a full rebuild after working of software updates for the Meliconi units.

Ok guys, I've just taken mine back and swapped it for the recently reduced (in Argos) Humax 9200TB.

Reason being, the series record is not fully fixed (it's started recording repeats again), the GUI slowdown is doing my head in and the boot-up time is a pain in the arse. Those who are sticking with the unit though, feel free to download the firmware:

I'm sticking with the Humax - picture quality is alot better, GUI is better looking and a lot faster. Sorry Vestel, you could have been onto a winner but the software really lets the unit down.

Having now found that the repeat recordings were not fixed in Version 10.9 was there any changes at all that you noticed compared to your previous software version?

Like yourself I have recently bought a Humax 9200 although I have kept my T816 Vestel and am running both together SCART daisy chained. I don't see any noticeable difference in picture quality on my Panasonic CRT TV. Although the GUI is prettier on the Humax it is not as user friendly as the Vestels but I agree this is compensated by the Humax being generally much faster responding to commands. Series Record on the Humax works as it should. The biggest problem with the Humax I have found so far is that it does not deal with Accurate Recording a well as the Vestels losing up to approx 60s (randomly variable between zero and 60s) of the start of recordings. It's other drawback is the EPG is lost in standby and can take some time to re-populate after coming out of standby.

In respect of the "boot-up" time are you referring to the time the Vestel takes to come out of standby from LP mode and/or the time to boot from power on? If you don't use the LP mode on the Vestels (recommended IMO) then coming out of standby is immediate and the EPG is fully available. On the Humax coming out of standby takes about 10s.

Nah I'm talking from mains-off power on, cold boot if you will. Yeah the Humax EPG is annoying like that (but at least you can see and hear the TV in it!) as is the fact that it turns itself on automatically from mains-on which means my remote then turns it off! Picture quality-wise, I'm seeing a big diff on my LG LCD. Picture is much clearer and the T825 would occasionally (especially in recordings) produce what I can only describe as analogue interference, which the Humax does not

As for that FW - there is deff a speed increase, over time it's not quite as bad but still not good enough. Apart from that, I'm not sure what else is different now. The recording of repeats was deff fixed when I first flashed it but the other day it started recording BB9 repeats so, it's a bit crap really.

I found the same during my brief ownership of a Humax, except that programmes sometimes started even later than 60s late, up to 13 minutes

I also did not see significant difference in PQ between it and the Vestel which was plugged into the same TV at the same time.

The 13 minute delay was undoubtedly a broadcaster problem.
