8MP SE Cybeshot phone
I'm surprised no one has picked up on this. Soon 5MP camera phones will be old hat.

The MP race reminds me of the MHz race, MP doesn't dictate how good the quality of the camera is.
You just can't beat a dedicated camera even if its just for optical zoom. |

They need to do some serious work on the samples, those shown are awful. So i guess that they have 6 months (or more) to get it right.

I'm pretty sure my k800i's 3.2mp camera could take better pics than the samples for that phone

Looks great - 10x better than the ugly C902.
Lets hope it blows us away when it comes out

Better off with a stand alone camera like a Panasonic Lumix, Much better quality and a 10x optical zoom
![]() Anyway, the cameras on the SE phones are nothing to be sneared at. All preview images are crap from SE - They keep the best till last ![]() The new K850i's camera is great considering it is on a phone. The leading in phone cameras tend to be SE/ Nokia with nit much between them. |

I wonder if the video capture will be as abysmal as the rest of the SE range. They really need to take Nokia's lead. Even the 3 year old 6280 has a better video recorder than the k800i, k850i etc

But with that comes extra money needed. Its all very good if you have the money.

Yup. Also comes down to the lens and CMOS sensor. I think its a gimmick used to off load cheap cameras onto a mass market.
That said, Sony's phone camera lenses are generally better than their competitors (the Viewty's is good). They're a little bit bigger for a start which reduces aberations etc. You're never going to replace owning a camera with your phone, but most camera phone pictures are probably taken on nights out, so good performance in tricky low light situations is very helpful. I would agree the before 5mp the SE cameras were better but since 5mp came around the SE cameras appear to be behind others. Certainly from what i have been reading the N82 is top dog and K850i is performing below par (ignoring even the other software issues is appears to have).

Of course the pictures are going to be a bit grainy showing them at the maximum size. They do look much better in the link CoolboyA shows. Pretty impressive for a phone. Although, I'll keep my trusty Olympus E-410 SLR for now lol.

The pics shown in that preview have been photo edited/resized, there is no point in doing any comparisons with photo edited pics as you are then comparing the quality of the editing software not the phone output. |
