Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings

This group deserve a thread of their own IMO, they're simply sublime and I can't believe they've not had the recognition they deserve across Europe yet. For those of you not familiar with them, the group barring Sharon Jones played all backing music on 6 tracks of Amy Winehouse' 'Back To Black' album, personally Mark Ronson's not all he's cracked up to- as if he didn't find them, he'd have not got the sound he was striving for. Ironically they feature on most of his album Version, apart from 1 track.

Although they may be part of a funk/soul revitalist movement, I don't think even Amy can Sharon's textured vocals or 'Back To Black' coming close to the authenticity The Dap-Kings capture on each album.

Enjoy

I got the album about two months ago and love it, even though it is not the type of music I like. I know they were on Jools a few weeks after I got the album. I found out about them as it was album pick on www.allmusic.com for ages.

If only they got more publicity instead of focus on the excess of generic music around atm.

I got their latest album a couple of months ago - it's brilliant. Really unique and soulful. I know that Mark Ronson has used the dap kings a lot, but Sharons vocals compliment them far better. They played a UK gig in London a couple of weeks back - I couldn't go but they must be amazing live. Unfortunately my brother 'borrowed' the album off me a few weeks ago and I've yet to get it back. Grrr....
