Cononation Street star Simon Gregson taken ill

FEARS FOR SICK CORRIE STAR SIMON

Coronation Street star Simon Gregson has sparked fears for his health after he was rushed to hospital with a mystery illness.

Bosses were thrown into panic when Simon, 33 - Rovers landlord Steve McDonald - was struck down on set.

Granada's nurse rushed to his side and immediately ordered him to be taken to casualty. And doctors there decided Simon - a Corrie regular for 17 years - was not fit enough to go home and admitted him.

Scriptwriters have now had to rewrite key scenes about his onscreen proposal to Michelle Connor, played by Kym Ryder.

Millions of viewers will see her hurl his ring into a skip after he admits cheating on her.

But many scenes have had to be rescheduled because Simon, who has a ten-month-old son, is not due back on set until next week.

A Corrie insider said: "Simon has not been himself for a while now and on Wednesday he looked too unwell to work.

"Our nurse wasn't sure how to help, so he was taken to hospital."

The source added: "We are at the centre of a big storyline at the moment and there was panic as bosses realised scenes needed to be rewritten and others put off but a hasty job has been done to sort things out.

"It was tragic Simon went down ill but everyone is anxious he gets better soon.

"He is fantastic at his job and, as a new dad, he's been really busy at work and at home.

"He will have to take things easy for awhile but hopefully he will be back to full fitness soon."

As much as I love Steve, Simon has been worked very hard this year. Maybe this had something to do with it.

Hope he gets well soon

Eeek!!! I feel ashamed, given my username which was created in his honour, that I didn't even know he'd been taken ill - although to be fair I was out of the country at the time....

It's a bit worrying that they're saying he'd been unwell for a while. I hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.
