There are lots of albums which i've thought arent that good on the first listen and then once playing them again or giving the record a second chance i think- what was i thinking

Examples of this would be Coldplay- Viva La Vida, Arcade fire- Funeral, MGMT- Oracular Spectacular

I think if an album has to grow on you it means its a bit different, so you have to get use to it, it might be that you get to know the words more i dont know???

They're definitely better. Albums you like instantly often get tired quickly.

A few examples for me:

- Björk - Medúlla - At first I was almost scared of this album. It's weird and sounds odd to the "untrained" ear (untrained to Björk that is ). I now consider it as one of my favourites, if not my favourite.

- Goldfrapp - Seventh Tree - At first I was shocked since it was quite a change. It grew on me and I don't think there's a weak song on it. I liked Supernature straight away but the novelty wore off.

- CSS - CSS - This is a band where the music is really fun but for some reason when you listen to it properly and find out what the songs are about it becomes soooo much better.

- Skin - Fleshwounds - "What, you can't be the same singer from Skunk Anansie?"... then I grew to love this album loads.

Yeah, I'm a sucker for Byrdsian jangly indie pop, and every album by Cosmic Rough Riders, Astrid etc has been catchy as measles on first hearing, they all seem like classics!

But equally the hooks turn rusty quicker.......some of the best albums are ones where there aren't obvious singles, if you put any one track on a mix tape it would seem out of place and not as good, but listen to the album as a whole and you lose yourself in the ouevre of the piece........

It's art, maaan........

I detested Rancid's Life Won't Wait album when I first heard it.

Gave it a few more shots, it's now one of my favourite albums.
