BBCHD - when is the extra content coming?
Maybe got this in the wrong thread, but am I the only one disappointed in the lack of hours on BBCHD?
I thought when the channel was no longer a trial, the Beeb said it would be increasing the hours. To me, it looks no different from before. Maybe some of the problem is that they only broadcast true-HD programmes rather than upscaled, and that HD is still somewhat in its infancy here. |

The amount of HD content is rather disappointing, but I beleive that BBC HD is right in not simulcasting.
If it had been a simulcast channel (presumably of BBC 1), then we would have missed out on great shows (from other channels - BBC 2, BBC 3 etc) like Heroes, Torchwood and others that I cannot think of at the moment

They did say it'd take a year for it to go up to a schedule of around 8 hours a day, so they've got until December to live up to that promise.
I think they'll get the Olympics out of the way first and then start increasing the hours of other programmes from the Autumn season. |

Or maybe not But the fact remains I never know what is being shown by the BBC in HD, so end up watching in SD. Yes, there are TV listings but clearly this is an issue to be resolved. |

It would be nice if BBC programmes were like Sky Sports and advertised as say "7pm Saturday on BBC1 and BBC HD" |

When we are going to get back to the content we had when it was a trial - let alone new hours?
Last of the Summer Wine starts a new series on BBC 1 this Sunday. The last two series have been HD highlights. Whatever you think of it as a comedy the PQ has been stunning. Just checked Digiguide and there is no sign whatsoever of this being shown on BBC HD over the next month. We also lost Trooping the Colour which was one of the most amazing things in HD during the first few weeks of Sky's HD service and the many people who praised it probably contributed to Sky upping their bit rates. Yet we had to make do without HD this year. There does appear to be serious indications that BBC HD has at best stalled - presumably on cost grounds - if these two programmes are anything to go by. Yet both use HD in the best possible way revealing stunning imagery and acting as a showcase for the medium - unlike stuff such as Holby Blue which might as well have stayed as Holby Black and White given that it hardly shows off what HD can do. |

Just read the What HiFi review of the new Sky EPG. It says that one new feature is the ability to hilight all actual HD progs on HD channels. In other words if you enable this you will be able to see at a glance what is true HD on channels the show both upgraded SD as well as true HD.
I will find this a help as I have often waited for a prog only to find that it is just SD on Ch4 HD. |

To be fair, there really is no excuse for missing the football on HD. The HD service is plugged at least 4 times during every match! (along with interactive and online versions)

As I remember the BBC plan extra service content by the end of the year. I would expect to see more in September when shows which have been comissoned post November 2007 (ie the start of the HD channel) will be running.

last of the summer swine
No its listed as only sd & the hd channel info ses Flo Nightingale at 8pm is the first prog on for the Sunday session
Summer swine will not be on anyway cos the great god football will have taken over & to make matters worse you will probably get stuck with 3 prats pontificating about yet more non events during that time if you set up a manual recording with an external set up If I was a ref no match would last more than 5 mins cos all the overpaid prima donna's would have been shown the red card for fouling Basically all paid footballers are in the wrong union anyway Should be in equty by the fantastic injury performance they pull but as soon as the cameras turn off them they are magically cured & get up & continue the farce To cap it all these days they don’t even play the full 90 mins |

At least 4 times during every match??? I can honestly say I have never heard the commentator mention it, not even once during the match because obviously if I had I would be watching it in HD

Today's games are on ITV. Going to have to prepare myself for disgusting footie PQ. Hope ITV HD comes to Sky HD sooner rather than later

Luckily
I didn't get home in time to see it, I heard it on the car radio on 5 live which has an audio quality equal to the ITV picture quality

According to Digiguide BBC HD are showing three episodes of Last of the Summer Wine on Monday (2) and Tuesday (1) July 7 and 8.
DG gives no episode details but as three SD episodes of the new series will have aired by then on BBC 1 it looks like these will catch up the new series in HD after Wimbledon ends. Just for all those who can stand the wait for this exciting addition to BBC HD and wait a couple of weeks beyond the SD transmission. For those unfamilar Last of the Summer Wine is
Spoiler

Forget BBCHD over next few weeks as it's gonna be re-branded Wimbledon HD.
Personally i think events like Glastonbury should be on there but they're migrated to SD on BBC3
