Debranding a Vodafone N95-2 (8GB)
I have just moved to Vodafone and got the Nokia N95-2 (8GB) and was hoping someone could advise me on the software I need to change the product code so that I can update the software to the latest Nokia release.
The phone hasnt arrived yet but I want to do this before I start using it. My previous mobile was the Nokia N95-1 does anybody know if I can just backup my contacts messages etc using Nokia Back-Up on the PC and restore it to the N95-2 or are there compatibilty issues. Thank you in advance for any help with this

I'd be interested too, I've got the original N95 on 3 today. Just as long as I don't mess up my internet settings

The only way to update them is to completely wipe the phone memory (not the user memory i.e. the 8GB) and reinstall the new firmware from scratch.
This is actually very easy. Download and install the latest Nokia Updated software from their site and connect your phone to your PC - it will check your current version and look for updates. You can then install a newer version if it's available - as I said this will completely wipe the phone and all settings etc will be lost. To 'de-brand' the phone which will remove networks themes and settings and make the phone act like an unlocked version (note this will NOT remove a simlock and your phone will remain locked to a network if it is already locked to one) you need to trick the Nokia updater software into thinking the phone is of the generic variety. To do this download this app: http://www.b-phreaks.co.uk/files/NSS/NSS103814.zip and... (WARNING: This will probably invalidate your warranty and the Nemisis app can screw up your phone if you don't know what you're doing, so be careful!) 1. Connect your phone and wait and wait to ensure Windows has installed all the drivers 2. Open Nemesis Service Suite and click “Scan for new device” on the right-upper part of the window 3. Click on the icon “Phone info” 4. Click on “Scan” 5. For N95 8GB, change the product code to 0549487 it should be set to 0557135 currently if it is running Vodafone UK software. (If you have original N95, your code may be different and I advise against using an N95 8GB code - you should be able to find a list of codes on Google) 6. Mark the case “Enable”. 7. Press “Write”, and your phone’s product code will be changed. 8.Close Nemesis Service Suite and run the Nokia Software Update to update your phone (it will replace the software with the generic version.) Your phone will now be running completely de-branded! |

it's actually a lot easier than it first appears:
http://nokia.nigelcoldwell.co.uk/firmware.htm the article has background info and product codes too. It makes a lot of sense to do it straight away so you don't lose anything. that having been said the vodafone firmware is fine, not particularly nobbled, and AFAIK has no major issues and is available in v20.0.016 I'm not sure what will go over if you back up using the pc suite and restore to the new phone. Contacts, bookmarks, calendar certainly should, after that it's a bit of a grey area. on messages i'd give it 50/50 i'd be interested to know how you get on, and how the two phones compare. |

Since posting here I have found this forum http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum...splay.php?f=91 which seems to have all the product codes and loads of other info regarding de-branding.

Got my N95-2 Vodafone handset today and the firmware version is only V15.0.015 and is pretty heavily branded I thought they may have been sending them out with a later version of the firmware by now.
I will update and debrand the software before using the phone just got it on charge.

I am now running V20.0.016 debranded firmware on my Nokia N95-2 and so far seems to be massive improvements on the heavily branded Vodafone V15.
Thanks to all that gave help on this! Does anybody know where I can get MSN Live Messenger for the N95-2 as this is not included on the debranded V20.0.016. Thank You
