Who is STILL buying 'singing in the rain'!?
Rooftopcowboy

After 2 weeks at number 1, its number 2 in todays midweek chart, only a few hundred behind Coldplay..

but who is STILL buying this song!!!

its been 3 weeks since Britain's Got Talent..surely everyones over it by now? not forgetting how old and overplayed the original song is anyway.

the 'sheep' mentality of the British public 'oooh it was on TV, i'll buy it' really annoys me sometimes

I've lost count of how many kiddies who've bought this with their pocket money, actually think it's George Sampson who's at number one with it.

Why do you believe this is the sole pastime of the 'British'?

I remember reading the other thread and people getting a bit pissy with yourself glyn about your comments. They were a trifle unnecessary, and quite frankly, the only reason why the track has suddenly re-entered the charts is because it was featured on the telly! Why else would it have recharted? It was hardly the best single from the year of original release!

I actually dug out my cd single of the Mint Royale track the other week - low and behold, I was right, and I do pardon if this was already mentioned in another thread - didn't see it at the time before I dug out the CD - it had a sticker on it saying 'as featured in the VW Golf GTI ad.'

I can't believe therefore the amount of people who have said to me,"oh that new track by Mint Royale." I hardly watch stations with adverts on and even I can recall the Mint Royale track being used on an advert in the not too distant past!

God, I hated that song.

It made me drink heavily.

I bought several cans of Stella-ella-ella-hey-hey-hey.

Who exactly pays money for stuff when they don't like it though? It has had exposure on TV and now on Radio etc, so people who didn't even watch BGT are probably now picking up on it.

Maybe the same morons who thought that Peter Kay had a number one with 'Amarillo'.

Yes it is. Why didn't they all go buy it 3 years ago when it was out. Hell it was even on a VW advert back then so no one can pull the 'it wasn't promoted/on TV' card.

To be fair, the video was probably the reason it sold so well- not to mention that it was technically credited as 'Tony Christie featuring Peter Kay'.

Aye it was, BUT you would not believe the amount of times I got asked to play 'the NEW song by Peter Kay' when the darn thing was out! There were a surprising amount of dull people out there who truly believed Peter Kay had provided the vocals on the track.

It's hilarious that people could think Peter Kay has a singing voice like that!

Would they not be a bit suspicious when hearing his actual singing voice on the Proclaimers thing?

I can only assume so. I used to end up bashing my head against a wall with one regular (at the time I was working in a very evil nightclub) who used to argue with me - "It's not Tony Christie, who is he? It's Peter Kay!"

Not sure if you saw it but there was a brief moment at the Live 8 concert where ole Peter Kay came out and started singing 'Amarillo,' only to be pulled off by the organisers! Suffice to say though it did get some of the crowd going it was bloody awful to listen to.
