I was just watching Springwatch and was shocked to find out there are NINE million cats in the UK. Not SIX.

How could she get it wrong?
I'm so disillusioned.

Nargis actually said that there were six million "cat owners" in the UK rather than cats. The heartless bint doesn't give a sh*t about the poor orphan cats because they don't have owners that will buy calendars.

Surely some of those cat owners have more than one cat so it could still be true. I'd ask Nargis to clarify her answer but she's still talking and I don' t like to interrupt her.

Speaking as a statistic - I own two purries... Called Essie (short for Eskarina) and Greebo - full marks to the first person to tell me where I got the inspiration for the names from!

I guess Eskarina is from Philip Pullman's Dark Materials books and Greebo as in Nanny Ogg's cat from Terry Pratchett's Discworld books.

GerriP and A-O...half points each indeed! Yes, both names from PTerry's Discworld novels (which I am currently working my way through - am up to "Men at Arms" currently).

Have yet to read PP's Dark Materials books...

Oh, you should read them - they're really good.

Sadly, I earned no points whatsoever, cos I've not read the Discworld books, but I am really pleased I now know where Granny Weatherwax got her name from

And Amazon ...
Lotus666

...and hubby's book collection (he has nearly ALL but the last 2 or 3 of TP). Plus, we have the Dark Materials Trilogy already, so no need to resort to either Waterstone's or Amazon luckily.

...so yes, there IS an end (at least for the moment).

*Puts on Simon impression*

Actually, I've had some experience with His Dark Materials, acting in an amateur dramatic society in the 6 hour play "Northern Lights" as Pantalaimon.

(True story. Very, very good fun, but possibly the most exhausting role I've ever played. 4 hrs 30 out of 6 hrs (2 different plays) in black underneath blazing white hot light.)

I'm not surprised you were exhausted.

Pantalaimon spent so much time rushing about!
