Personally i find downloading really cold. Having to go out to buy a cd or record is much more appealing, and the sense of actually owning the record, rather than it being one of many files on the computer (which may or may not get wiped if the laptop has a funny five moments) is much more appealing

In a way i think its why people are so reluctant to pay for downloads as they are so in personal. And music is so readily available on file sharing applications, bring back the CD, even better bring back the LP.

I agree. Part of the fun is just walking in a shop and browsing the cds and buying whatever catches your eye. Plus I like to have the artwork, it feels more like the complete package even if I just stick the music straight on the computer and never actually listen to the cd.

Hehe. I'm only several years older than yourself but actually remember buying now 21 on LP at the age of 7. You could actually read the text inside the sleeve about the bands/acts without putting on the NHS specs compared to the CD or cassette with its size 6 font or whatever it was!

I also am of the school of thought that vinyl has a much warmer sound than CDs/ an mp3 and really enjoy listening to vinyl, even with the crackle in the background!

As for the artwork, I remember getting free wall posters with 12" singles when I was younger - much the same price as a CD single was a few years ago when you could actually still buy them in Woolworths or the local WH Smith.

Lyrics were another thing - I have lost count of the amount of CDs that never had lyrics inside. I don't think I ever bought an LP without a lyrics sheet inside.

I still buy almost all my albums from HMV, Zavvi, Tesco or order them from Amazon online. I have downloaded a few recently though. I just like to legally download single songs which I like, not necessarily singles, but just any songs that appeal. Hearing the odd song by getting them that way can spur me on to getting the album its from for real in CD format.

My HMV and Zavvi both have great deals on older albums and I have purchased loads in the past few months. I do love the physical object and I do love having a browse round the shop looking at all the CD's. But with downloads the most appealing thing is how instant it is. I could hear a song on a Youtube video for example and be like oh wow thats amazing, get it from itunes and its mine.
